Its all a gamble really, there are guys that make over 1000 with minimal mods and it all holds, then there are some with slightly built motors with carnage. My advice is to do the basics, rods, pistons, key the cam and crank, and an AF cam.
If your going to buy a Porsche, make sure you buy a Turbo model, not an N/A. They have Intermediate shaft Bearing failures that could potentially blow the motor if not handled in time. this is a serious issue for 996's but is also common in 997's as well.
If it were me, I would data log the truck to see if the pump is in fact worn out and losing rail pressure. I would also check the balance rates and see what injector is bad. There are other reasons for ticks
