Finished putting the engine together for dad's old car yesterday. Need to test the ancient Accel distributor he's got then it'll be ready to break the cam in

Doesn't really bother me. If it's going to snow 6in and I have to plow, it might as well snow 24in

    buying a 1500

I like the 14-18 body. If you're going to put faith into a 6L80 you might as well have direct inject too. As much as I really don't care for 4L60 / 65E you can build a good one for cheap parts wise Even going to an older non DOD truck or converting one is no guarantee on lifter life. My buddy...

    Lifetime oil filter?

I've been around the ones by K&P Engineering. They work but for convenience sake and multiple vehicles I don't bother using them, many people use them on race cars to continuously monitor for bearing material etc

    Lml piston install

For the bearing? Usually .001" for every inch of journal diameter is a good place to start

    Lml piston install

Depends on how far out the balance is, far enough and it'll have a vibration. Bearing grades are based on bearing housing size, there's not going to be a ton of difference. I have a set of both ID and OD mics, so I can measure theoretical clearance. Double check the assembly with Plastigage if...

    Lml piston install

That I am not sure of the correlation. H is a std size and HX is +.001"

    Lml piston install

Measure piston weights, if close I'd run it. Although it would benefit from being balanced. Are you pulling the engine or trying to do this in frame? GM did have different grade bearings based on diameters. Not sure who claimed they were marked wrong? Anyway that's where the H / HX bearings...

Piston to deck clearance and head gaskets

I've used both Permatex and Loctite grey with no issues. Most leaks are from poor prep and application

Yea I read the back story. Did you sift through the court documents or something?

Another reason not to get involved....

Haven't watched the dash cam footage for myself, but the claim is she was trying to walk away while he was pointing his pistol at her. She at that point was attempting to de escalate and he became the aggressor

Piston to deck clearance and head gaskets

Sealing will be the same. Yes there is the advantage of a higher CR, which will help with a larger cam. Does it really make that much of a difference? Probably not in a diesel, it's good practice to get the quench tight as possible, within reason and not pushing the limits. Lots of shops will...

Piston to deck clearance and head gaskets

By the book you'd need a B and a C, if it were my truck I'd run A and a B. One thing I'll note based on everyone's experience is to avoid the gold GM gaskets. Depending on what is in stock and your desired time frame, C grade might be all you're able to get

    Tunes?

Don't run a hot tune meant for stock injectors. There are a few threads here with tune files posted talking about changes for SAC style injectors (if that's what you have). Also if you have the injector flow sheets, you can utilize that to rough in a pulse width map as a starter

Piston to deck clearance and head gaskets

If you ever get to where you need something thicker than a C gasket, shave some off the pistons. Most shops when they modify the bowls on an OE set they'll cut .010 off the top. And IIRC without looking at the catalog the Mahle pistons are available with a -.010 compression height
