BD Transmission issues

I had a BD Towmaster allison installed in late 2025, the first unit never made it out of the shop, working with BD tech they dropped the pan for inspection and it was determined it had no line pressure. A replacement was shipped after a month, that trans would not let the shop start the shift relearn process and had a shift shaft seal leak. BD tech had them try and drive it which made it set a trans code right away, they determined shift solenoid issues, and stated they were having problems with there shift solenoid supplier. They shipped out a replacement valve body, which got the trans functioning properly again, each instance in this in this process took almost a month each issue to process. It is now May of 2026 and no warranty labor has been confirmed to shop performing the repairs and my truck has been stuck at shop waiting.

What led you toward using a BD transmission? Recommendation by the shop or someone else?

Unfortunately that scenario is what happens when a shop installs an outsourced unit. Unless the builder trusts the shop to make warranty repairs you're stuck waiting.

I have seen nothing but issues from
BD. We no longer deal with them after we were told labor would be covered at $100/hr and they gave us and the customer the finger when it was time for payment. Had it in phone convo and email.

Anyhow, I’d yank that trans and get a used stock core to build and start fresh. Your issue aint gunna end

I had just purchased a house in another state and was moving 650 miles, towing my 24ft enclosed trailer. I broke down in an area with limited services, the tow company recommended a few local repair shops. The repair shop was a Jasper dealer which I didn't want, I wanted a trans upgraded for towing, he was also a BD dealer and could get a TowMaster trans. I personally hadn't dug into BD trans reviews and this would be the first BD trans he had ordered and installed, now we are both sorry we went down this road.

I'm sorry you're having these issues. This is unfortunately why most transmission builders and shops will recommend a quality local builder over a drop-ship transmission builder. This makes it much easier in the event of an issue.

Take the truck over to Jacob @ Speed Stop Inc as he's in Jerome, ID like you (based upon the 83338 zip noted in your bio). He will get you squared away.
