    The pinion depth won't change but the pinion pre-load will. The correct way to do it is remove the differential and verify rotating torque.     I moved the alternator to drivers side. Just buy the bracket for "dual alternator" right from gm and your all set.

    looks like the one of the alignment dowels that goes on the Transmission side to align the valve body to it. It should be fairly obvious where it goes (Un-threaded hole).

    I have also seen a bunch of them rub thru to the actual battery cables and cause shorts !
