    New toy

If you are that far into the brakes, don't forget to change the lines also. Be a bummer to go through all that trouble then have a hose collapse internally.

    BBC teardown and diagnosis

Did you ever figure out the backfiring through the intake? Wondering if you are having distributor issues?

Yeah. Only option there is to drill a hole in the stat to allow coolant to pass, but that's not a good option either. Are there water ports on the back of the intake that are just plugged? This looks like an Air Gap diagram, may be similar enough though.

Gotcha. That makes sense. Amazing how many sensors we actually need to automate things. The other option is a T-stat housing replacement. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/rnb-902-2015?seid=srese1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwkMjOBhC5ARIsADIdb3eS1CiJ46TdCRag57m9hgvKE4zuIYzEmNpQb54fZ8xaf7mTaT6rQqMaAptIEALw_wcB

I was thinking more along the lines of an actual pre tapped hole in the block side say between cylinders 1 and 3 not in the intake or heads. Is that a mechanical water temp sensor on the other side? Is it hooked to anything?

Is there a drilled and tapped port into the water jacket on the side of the block near the casting plugs? It's been a while since I was around a block to remember all of the ports.

I wonder if you had a security system glitch? Niece had a vehicle with a bad security module that would shut off randomly while driving. Luckily she could immediately restart and usually make it to destination without further incident. Only found it by luck and having her immediately look at...

Either leave the stock I6 in it or go completely bonkers and drop in a SBC. I'd hate to know how bad they want to keep this thing in parts somewhere waiting to build it but options are out there. https://www.chevrolet.com/performance-parts/crate-engines/small-block-engines/383-engine Looked...

Yeah new chains typically need to "wear" in a bit or need to be overtightened to keep them from feeling a bit loose. New binders are also a bit rougher than "slightly" used ones that have had a little wear on them to smooth out the rough spots. Lubrication on binders is a must or they will...

Nice thing about those is you can buy 2 sets and screw them together to get longer if they are like the ones I have. I have the 8' screw tougher set (compact enough it fits in the drawer of my toolbox).

not as good of brake as i think they should be

Should be one stage for the master cylinder. You may have a bubble stuck somewhere in the system. You might try pushing the pistons back into the caliper fully then pumping the brakes back hard a couple of times to see if you can get the bubble to move. Rapid fluid movement is what it takes...

    Lifetime oil filter?

First thing I see that a daily driver would be interested in knowing is the micron rating. For the racers and pullers, piece of mind in being able to dump the filter and look on a regular basis is critical. Looked, and it will fit the newer L5P motors for thread fitment, but do not know about...

I've had new belts squeak for some reason. Take a dry bar of cheap hotel soap and hit both sides of the belt as it will act like a belt dressing / cleaner. if the squeak stops, then it's in the belt not in one of the mechanical parts most likely.
