Limp mode No codes

I've got a 09 lmm with a 68mm drop in turbo from Danville, 10mm cp3 from exergy and the truck has been fully deleted with parts from hsp. It was tuned by a local shop that has since gone out of business but it has efilive with a dsp5 switch. The truck will go into limp mode, usually when on the freeway pulling a hill, but does not show any codes. But if I use my scanner to clear codes it resets and drives normal again. I'm in Utah so there are lots of mountains and I live at about 6500 feet above sea level. I drove the truck to Texas for Thanksgiving and it runs great. No matter how hard I drive it, I can't make it go into limp mode. So my question is, is the elevation in my tuning set wrong? I've wanted to learn good to write tunes but haven't taken the time to do it. Any help would be appreciated.

You’re going to want to do some logging. Checking things like rail pressure actual vs desired, vane position and boost. Is this a new development or has the truck always done it?

It started after the hsp kit and turbo was put in

The shop that installed the tune most likely bought it from someone that did not modify the higher elevation vane/boost tables. They also most likely disabled some codes in your tune but did not change the tables that relate to underboost/overboost codes which lead to the limp mode.

That shop that tuned it was about an hour away but only at about 3000 feet above sea level. They did use tunes from another company but they have also gone out of business after being fined by the EPA. Tuners in Utah have been hard to find since the crack downs on emissions

Is it an engine limp (2-3000rpm max) or transmission limp (only 3rd and R)???

Overlooked: no listing of built trans.

It is unfortunate. Most of the country lives in the low altitude category. Sounds like you need a new tune. We can help if you decide to do it yourself.

I would like to do it myself, just unsure of where to start and I don't want to make things worse for myself trying to figure it out on my own

The infamous lmm low boost limp. It’s in the tune, it’s gonna be hard to find someone who can tune it out. My lmm almost got me killed me in Virginia going up a decent grade pulling a large boat. It’s dangerous when they limp out and traffic behind you can’t tell what’s happening. I had my buddy sit in the passengers seat with a code scanner plugged in ready to clear it out when it would happen. I think Mark may have figured it out.

Thanks, I'll take all the help and info I can get. In that thread, there's a stick lmm tune attached. Can I use that to start learning how to use efilive? Or do I need a file for my vin?

Even Rob was stumped on this code, it’s turned off so it won’t set but it still limps out the truck. This is unfortunately only a problem with the lmm. I think Tyler Meyer and I were some of the first people with a 4094 based turbo on the lmm. They ran great until you had to climb a grade and the truck didn’t downshift, then it would throw the low boost code bc the larger turbo couldn’t get the boost where the ecm wanted it. Rob worked on a fix but we never got it 100%. When I sold the truck the new owner fought with it again. It actually caused the relationship I had with Rob to sour. I like that guy so that sucked, I think the EPA was stressing him at that point though.

I've been fighting it for awhile, I've been pointed in about every different direction you could think of from replacing sensors to boost leaks to needing new injectors. I've always thought it was something to do with the tuning though. Hopefully this forum can help me get it figured out

100% turbo limp. On my dad’s LMM with a 65mm the turbo was making more than commanded boost going up hill. Most tunes have the number of seconds until it checks itself maxed out that’s why you don’t have the issue driving around.

Put your vin in here and you can see what OS need for your truck.
