Maybe you guys can help me out, I am on the fence about hooking my truck to a sled. There are a bunch of county fair pulls coming up around me and id like to make my ford buddies look dumb. I have wanted to hook my truck since i bought it but i am not sure its the best idea. The problem lies with my truck, Its a 2004 ccsb with a 6inch pro comp lift with 35 X 13.5 X 18inch tires (cooper stt mud terrain), built suncoast G-Max tranny with precision converter, Diablo Predator 120hp 255tq tune (EFI coming soon), rare parts tie rods, cognito braces, moog problem solver idler and pitman arms, and a torsional posi carrier. I feel like I have most of the problem areas covered but the big tires are my biggest worry. If the track hooks hard and i dont spin i feel like something will break. Thanks in advance for the insight!

lower your front end all the way and you should be fine. if it starts to hop let off if youre afraid of breaking. I would look into a set of traction bars though

yea aggressive tread 35's and a 6in lift will put a lot of strain on suspension and driveline parts... I don't think I would... but thats me. lol I worry about my 33's with torsion bar bolts completely out...;)

Is it re-geared? if not you may not be able to get ground speed. Drop the front and find someone to lend you some wheels with 33's for the day.

Stock 3.73 gearing, I was planning on pulling the t-bar bolts all the way out. What gear would you guys think? 4lo 2nd? Thanks again for the quick replies! :thumb:

Thanks guys! Now it sounds like a need to find a different set of wheels! I was at a pull last weekend in wolf creek wisconsin and there was a guy there who had boughten a red ccsb LB7 from ohio that fleece built.. that thing hooked hard! He said he pulled 3rd 4lo with 950hp

Building your own or find a friend that can fab traction bars is the cheapest route. With big tires and stock gears I wouldn't let the truck past second gear

you can clamp yr rear springs on both sides of the axle to help prevent hop, lower bars, roll into it easy and feel how the truck is taking it, if its not hopping lay into it, if you feel a little hop, slowly let off a little then back into it. Don't just drop the throttle if it hops, you risk hitting the sled. Don't air down yr tires either if yr worried about to much traction. I know guys in ny that want to pull with 35s for better traction..

just don't forget 4lo and 3rd gear.. Once you hook, you won't stop its a blast. Get a feel for yr truck as you pull and you will learn when it flexes enough to floor it and not hop.

James, it is the bracket lift with stock geometry. I tried launching it on a dirt road and it took it very well it grabs second and third really hard though not sure if thats good or bad?

This is great info thanks guys!

When i first got the truck I was breaking cv's every time I put it in 4x4, turns out the retard that put the lift in (before i bought the truck) did not put the torque strap on the front diff that bolts to the frame. So everytime torque was applied it would twist the diff and snap the shaft. I have since replaced all the mounts in the front end and installed the torque strap that was MIA. From what I can tell now it seems to be strong... Im not sure what the weak point is now?

That lift will move around quite a bit under a heavy 4wd load. I know of plenty of people that were happy to throw that lift away on daily drivers so they could just keep the front end together. Your alignemrnt will go to crap and the drop down bracket for the center link is a pos and caused many a person to shear pitman arms.

I highly suggest you put a knuckle drop lift on if you want to beat on the truck.
