What's up guys,

Been looking around on this site for quite sometime and decided to start contributing. Although by the looks of it, 99% of you guys seem to have more knowledge than myself. The site has already helped me with plenty of things and I thank you all for that.

Anyways, the truck I own is a 04.5 Sierra 2500hd SLT CCSB 4x4. I picked it up as it sits with the lift, rims and tires and with only 100k miles on it for 10k. Could not pass it up. The truck has a 6" rcd lift sitting on 35" nitto terra grapplers. Since I bought the truck I have added:

Banks intake
4" exhaust straight piped
EGR block off
AFE turbo inlet
Edge CTS
EFI live by PPEI

Nothing too crazy yet as I have yet to beef the Trans up. But that is definitely next on the list.


I just got smogged yesterday, happy to see it pass. And I am in CALIFORNIA by the way. The Cat it welded on, but hollow. The smog tech that I took it too did not even do a stab test for visual on smoke. Stoked that I am good for another two years in the strictest state in the U.S. (Seems that way)


Last month when I went down to Baja, I pulled into the in laws house after a 600 mile trip, let the EGT's cool a bit and turned off the truck. The next morning when I woke up I fired her up and heard a noise that I never have. Seemed to be an extra sound that to me sounds like air moving but this is where I will ask you guys for help. My first inclination was turbo, however the noise it noticeable at idle. When I change the tune on the my edge, the noise alters which made me think that it could be the VPS on the turbocharger. The turbo seems to build the same amount of boost however, and no check engine light for a VPS? When I'm driving and I reach about 1500-1800 RPMS, an audible woosh noise can be heard that like I said, am not used to hearing. The truck seems to have minimal power loss if any, however seems to be a little heavier on the black smoke than normal. I haven't had much time to go through the engine with a wrench to check for exhaust leaks yet.

I know this is not a ton of information, but any advice, suggestions, or diagnostics you guys can think of for something like this is greatly appreciated.

Lastly I will leave you with a couple pictures of the truck. You will notice in the pictures fishing is a big hobby of mine. (Hence the trips to baja)
