Ifs front gear removal help

Having a hard time finding how to get the drivers side axle out. Just remove with a slide hammer or is the cap at the end of the housing threaded and have to be turned out to get the axle out?

X2! You can also split the case, angle the cross pin in the deeper part and slide it back to expose the stub shaft. Then proceed with a bfh and a socket extension or bar/rod to push the stub shaft out that way. The c clip that holds the stub shaft in will more than likely break into a few pieces.

You can also SAVE the axle shaft by removing the front diff assembly and place stuck axle upright in a 15 gal. barrel and sledge hammer down then up while turning the axle shaft 30 degrees between hits.This centers the mushroomed c-clip and eventually frees the axle shaft-3 minets or so .It works for me!
