How to know if my EGR is deleted or not?

Good afternoon, I recently purchased a 2006 LBZ 4x4 with 200,000 miles.
I have no idea what tune is in the truck though…The guy I bought it from said he didn’t know because it was installed before he bought it. He says he remembers the guy he bought it from saying it was just slightly above stock. I am wondering how to tell if my egr is deleted or not. I assumed it was deleted by the tune because the truck has an aftermarket afe intake hose, an aftermarket exhaust, and an aftermarket down pipe. Seemed like whoever added the mods knew what to do. It still has stock up pipe and I don’t see a blocker plate on the egr. I unplugged the egr valve connector today and a P0405 code was read on my edge diagnostic display.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first diesel so I’m a rookie when it comes to knowing much about them.

The EGR is behind that grid heater and under the rubber coupling on the intake. If it's there you'll see it

I just assumed it was deleted by the tune. It’s still there for sure. I guess my question is if the tune had it deleted it wouldn’t have thrown a code right? Because the tune should have masked it out.

If you got an EGR code when you unplugged the EGR plug from the EGR Valve, then it wasn't deleted...
That’s what I thought. Any recommendations on what I should do?
Just put a tune in that deletes it or put a tune in that deletes and add the blocker plate?
Also how bad do you think it affected my engine not being deleted for 200k miles?

The Engine I Purchased with 227K nearly had the EGR ports almost completely plugged up. You could tell the difference between that and the other engine that I have with only 180K.

The ports and crossover had alot of sludge build up in them as well.

It would be cool if you could do an intact tract cleaning like a Gasoline engine to clean all that garbage out. I just don't know how effective it would be considering how the air flows up and through to the heads.

I pulled the engine apart to re-seal it. That turned into a full blown rebuild.

I had to replace 16 guides total, 5 valves and lots of cleaning on the heads to get the gunk out.

Same with the Intake horn Lot's of cleaning.

It sure does run good though. I’m hoping I can just throw a blocker plate in and delete it with a tune. Idk too much about it though….

With 227K miles on the odometer. This ran fine as well with no indication of issues. But the donner vehicle was damaged and I couldn't drive it far. This is what I found inside...

I can only show you what I found on mine. I am doing a swap so I wanted to reseal the engine so there was no leaks. I have no prior knowledge of how it was cared for or how it was treated.

We suspect the EGR cooler may have had a small leak causing it to ingest some liquid. That's the only thing we can attribute the valve damage and the pitting I found in a few of the cylinders.

In Marine applications where the Air to water intercoolers leak, they suffer the same type of damage to the valves.

EGR could be shut off in the tune and still get a code. You'd have to pull the tune to see its settings. its typical to do at least this...even if you don't add a block plate. If you remove it all then of course you need to also turn all those diag codes off though.
