I have a 2011 gmc 2500. The other day I was driving with about a half tank of fuel and out of no where the gauge shot down to empty and the light came on after a little while it went all the way to e and the light went off and for the fuel range it just had dashes. Then it went up to like a 1/4 tank and back to e randomly. It threw 2 codes p0571 and p0463. I cleared the codes out and I stopped at a gas station and put like $50 worth of diesel in and the gauge went back up and started reading properly. It worked fine for a few days and then today I was getting low so I filled up to about 3/4 tank and after driving around for a few hours the gauge again shot down to e. This time it's at e and the fuel range shows dashes and once in a while it will move up a hair and the light will come on.

Sounds like it may be a connection problem or maybe a fault in the sending unit. You would have to get into the the circuit and check things out, at least that is where I would start.
