Will I gain anything by just taking off the cat converter? I dont want to do anything else but take the cat converter off. I was told there would be a 30hp gain. True or false? The only other thing that has been done is a cold air intake.

idk about 30hp but you should pick up a few hp and lower egts a little bit. The more you have done to the truck the more you will gain by ditching the cat.

you will notice no seat of the pants increase in power, your exhaust will stink more, and your EGTs will see a slight drop.

I'm a diesel dummy. I dont understand what is EGT's mean. Just wanted to know what if any benefits would be from taking the cat off. I have a 2004 GMC 2500HD. Just han new intectors put in last week. Has 137,000 miles on it.

EGT is exhaust gas temperature. If the truck is all stockthen you shouldn't have any issues with leaving the cat in. You might make a few more horsepower when strapped to a dyno and the EGTs might drop a few degrees but the gains will be minimal and you most likely won't even notice a change. Plus once you cut the cat out you're more likely to have exhaust leaks down the road etc.
