Well I've been working on this project for a little while now and learned a lot from you guys and sourced some parts from you guys. I figured I'd show what I'm up to and look for any input. I got the truck when I was 16 it's a 83 body is in pretty got shape. Started out as a 305 couple years later I swapped a built 406 in it, but never ran it much. This summer came across a lbz and Allison out of a wreck. I still have a lot to do. I'm about ready to put it apart to box the frame and finish weld everything. Still need a lot of cleaning paint etc. I've been thinking about a 9" for out back as far as gear ratio looking for some insight. Ben is doing the harness for me. Then I gotta run fuel lines hydraboost and coolant. Well that's all I can type on this phone. Any advice, tips, or tricks are appreciated. Sorry about grammar and spelling. Ryan

Great looking project. It looks like you have a nice truck to start with. I'm doing a 69 my Dad bought new. You're a little farther along than I am. Is your trans tunnel and doghouse around the back of your engine removable?

Yeah tunnel will be removable makes getting to Trans bolts up pipes easier

With a 29" tall tire and the 6 speed 3.0-3.55 will be good. Personally the taller the gear the better. With the amount of torque your Gonna make a tall gear won't hurt a thing. It would help fuel economy.

I run a 9" in my car with a 3.0 gear and 29.5" tire. All from strange, 35 spline locker. If I had to do it again I would not use a locker, too noisy. Your final gear will be taller then mine due to the double od, so highway speeds should be very comparable to a factory Lbz/ally combo in an 06 truck.

Go with a tall gear like a 3.08 or lower, it should help manage traction better. My burb weighs 7300 with just me in it, and with 3.42 gears and a 31 inch tall tire traction is still an issue once it comes on boost.

Very cool project! If you get a rear axle from a 4x4 pickup or blazer, most of them were 12 bolts. All you have to do is swap in your 2wd axles to use it on your truck. Probably not as strong as a ford 9", but it is a direct bolt in swap and you get to keep your wheels!

I just saw this morning wish I had the time, space and money to do something this and the truck is an all time favorite/classic. I see where the transmission parts I sent will have their home...:thumb:

I got a hydraboost out of a newer 3500 Chevy van had to do a little modify to make it work and still need lines.
