AS I PASS through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.

We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.

With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch,
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch;
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings;
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The Wages of Sin is Death."

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

Its happening as we type :(

What about the people working overtime for free, extra days and doing two people's jobs for the same pay because they are afraid to get fired or replaced?

This is very true. I work in education (IT, but I work with schools for an organization that's similar to a school) I haven't gotten a raise in years (no cost of living either), and I don't make much considering it's IT work. I'm thankful for my job, and it could be worse, but I'm only getting more responsibility and more tasks to do....

My GF is a 3rd grade teacher. 2nd year doing it, pay is frozen... she makes 30k a year, and that was one of the higher paying districts in the area. She works her tail off... yes she has 2 months off during the summer, but believe me, she makes up for it during the year... 11 hour days during the year, sometimes longer and several hours of work every weekend. Teachers around here are getting dumped on with more requirements, tasks and work to do all the time.

I know our education system leaves much to be desired, but I can tell you from years of first hand experience in the field, there are a lot of people involved that work very hard and get payed very little. And it's only getting more stressful... :(

Everyone seems to forget what a democracy means and we send blame to one person. Congress has not done anything to help because it might make Obama look good. So they refuse to do anything. We are set up so not one person can do it. We are past in trouble. Obama's health care plan was meant to force the issue and get reform in place so that all of us can go to any hospital any where, no I do not agree with that approach, but not doing anything at all is worse. Do your homework on Romney and Ryan, no tv adds, do real digging. Find out how the people of MA. really feel about him and how he actually "attempted" to balance there budget. You will find out that Romney will tell you exactly what you want to hear and then do the exact opposite. It is on record Romney has sent more U.S. jobs to China than anybody that is a fact. That info is enough for me. Who pays taxes and who does not. Romney and Ryan scare the flippin crap out of me. In there world WE work for them all of U.S. We The People.....please do your home work and don't believe any of the TV ADDS.

Just in case you forgot Obama had a super majority his 1st 2 years in office. He could've done anything he wanted to do but all he was concerned about was Obamacare. If I'm not mistaken Romney has released his taxes for the last 2 years and paid around 14.5%, and donated a ton, so the tax argument is a big Fail. And I don't need to do research on Obama, the last 4 years have been research enough

I know I'm going to get lambasted for this...

I'm a hardcore right winger, I would much rather see eye for an eye justice, drug testing/work for welfare and tax breaks for the middle class.

That said, any american that is against universal health care is an idiot. Flat out. I'm glad I live in Canada. Yes, wait times can suck sometimes but it's better than having to remortgage your home to have a child.

Anyone who thinks financial reform isn't needed is an idiot too. We were pretty much immune to your housing crash. Deregulation turned Wall St into a casino and who lost? Middle class.

Yes our taxes are slightly higher here but we also have a lot less population to draw from.

Contrary to what you might think, the standard of living here is, for the average person, superior to that of the USA.

I'd be happy to debate policies all day.

Again, justice and other beliefs, I'm hardcore right wing, but you guys need a decade plus of Obama-style politics to fix that mess.

Sounds Canadian to me. Maybe he can fix things here like they are in Canada.

I know you're being sarcastic but consider this:

Our banking system is highly regulated. Every mortgage is insured and not by the tax payer.

No one here lost their house because the lenders were playing roulette with their money.

Or consider this, I blew my ACL and tore my meniscus playing rugby. Total cost out of pocket for surgery? Maybe $160 to rent the cooling machine for rehab.

My father needed a knee replaced, cost out of pocket? Maybe $100 for meds.

How come the exact same drugs in the US cost FIFTEEN times what they do here?

Now granted, there are things the Americans do better as; punishing criminals, creating a healthy environment for businesses to grow and a better military.

I'm all ears, apples to apples, hit me with your best shot :)

How many houses or apartments does Canada provide your impoverished people? How much food do they provide? How many cell phones? How many college educations? How much cash does Canada just give to the "poor"? How many retire on govt (Social Security I mean, not govt employees retiring & drawing a pension). What shape is you infrastructure in? How many miles of roads? How well maintained are they?

I'm serious because I really don't know. Does Canada have nearly as much expense for welfare programs as the US does? Our handouts are absolutely crippling us.

You mentioned the big banks gambled the mortgage money away here. Partially true but why is there almost never any blame put on the folks who took out the ridiculous mortgages and then couldn't pay??? Why is it always the business's fault? I think there needs to be a better explanation during house buying as to exactly what's going on. Too many people simply signed by the X & never considered what they may end up paying if their stupid balloon mortgage inflated. They only cared about the monthly payment at the day of signing. And even then, the payments were given at far too high of a percentage of their household income.

Ignorance & greed & corruption & perhaps the root of it all is the pushing aside of God has done a number on this a number on this country.

LOTS. Most of it is Provincial (State). You would have to be aware of the dynamics with our Native/Aboriginals. Gigantic money pit.

How many cell phones?

Zero

How many college educations?

I can't really say for sure how much is goverment given, but, if a person is a card carrying treaty native, they are 'entitled' to a completely FREE post secondary education. Granted, the percentage that go through with it is very small.

? How much cash does Canada just give to the "poor"?

Hundreds of millions.

How many retire on govt (Social Security I mean, not govt employees retiring & drawing a pension).

To actually retire on the CPP (Canadian Pension Plan) you would be living below the poverty line. It's also horribly under funded because of the aging boomers and not enough contributing working population.

What shape is you infrastructure in? How many miles of roads? How well maintained are they?

Your highways are a FAR superior to ours. I'm sure our winters don't help. However, where I live, I can say without doubt is the worst infrastructure I have ever seen in the free world...and I've been on 4 continents...that's saying something...

I couldn't agree more. Part of the regulation here involves minimum downpayments and minimum income. That said, there are still idiots that will buy an overpriced home they can barely afford and then go rack up thousands in credit card debt and car loans. Don't get wrong the stupidity is rampant.

So I recently watched this movie and I can say that I am truly fearful of our future even at this point! I am finishing up a side job and im going to buy an AR and a lot of bullets. Was sadened by the emphasis on our deficit in the last 12 years. From George Washington to Clinton we amassed $5.76 trillion in debt. Over 200 years that's not bad. But in the last 12 we have added another $9.5 trillion! Omfg we are seriously in trouble! Taking our Nuke count down to less than anyone else? Wtf? Send $500 billion to brazil and Mexico to drill oil but nix the keystone pipeline and put stranglehold regulations on our domestic drilling? Next we export 90% of our oil to world market? We are headed towards a revolutionistic state. How can people not see the damage done by Obama? I am tired of working my ass off only to give it to someone who doesn't want to work for it. I love my brother but I am not his keeper. Our government should not have the power to decide who gets healthcare and who doesn't. I understand that out current system needs reformed but not how Obama wants it. Let the people decide. Socialism is not for me! This is the land of the free and the home of the brave, One nation under God!

Side note if you want to see a good film about the mortgage crisis watch the "inside job" that Matt Damon narrates. It will make you sick to your stomach. And I'm sorry to have to say this but there was more at play during 9/11 than just" terrorists hijacked some planes".

Again I agree with you there I didn't like the way he handled healthcare reform BUT it is finally starting to work. Romney only released 2 years and "ONLY" paid 14.5 hardly his fair share, HARDLY AT ALL and those donations he got that back at the end of year dude give me a break. Romney wants to kill Social Security, Medicare and he wants to implement a voucher program for friggen public schools and THAT will cut any and all Gov, funding for OUR middle class schools. He says he wants to get the cheaters in China when he, HE is in fact the biggest cheater. His middle class makes 200k a year BTW. I wish. God help us if Romney/Ryan gets in.

Do you know what capital gains tax is? He is recieving money off his invested money that had already been taxed. The money he made is then taxed again at a lower rate. I guess if he released 10 years of tax returns like Harry Reid wanted, you all would still bitch about something else.
Where are you getting your info from? I have never heard him say any of this in regards to S.S., medicare. You are very misinformed of the correct info.
