i had the chance to run against another LMM, i know he had EFI and 5 " exhaust, dont know much else, it was a quick truck , he rolled up on me at about 35-40 then we hit it and we ran hard up to about 100 mph, i was not in Tow/haul as i was not expecting the race but after my converter locked i started to pull away. Any way my EGT was pegged at 1600, i know 1500 is HOT and am starting to worry this may be too hot for my LMM pistons??? i have 4" Gibson exhaust, it cam with the truck, maybe go with 5" to bring it down?

If you go wot tow haul doesn't make a difference anyway.

How long were you at that temp? That's hot for sure but usually isn't a problem in short bursts.

What boost did you see? Exhaust won't help to bring that down. Downpipe will help it cool off faster.

Probably only 5-6 seconds, we ran out of road quick, i usually run around 32 psi at wot but i did not get a look as i pussied out real fast after i saw the egt at needle :confused:

Like mentioned exhaust won't change it at all. Your lift and big tires aren't helping your egt at all. Bigger turbo or lower gears will bring them down.

Not too bad for only a few seconds. Only way to remedy that is manifolds, uppipes, and downpipe. And another or bigger turbo.

Egt's are just a number. I see 1650-1800 on my smaller tunes when racing. On the big tune, the needle stops at 2000....:eek:

EGT's are overrated!!! Short bursts to 1800+ won't hurt, just don't hot lap it.

thanks for the feel goods guys, i plan on Twins but figured i should do the tranny first, anybody running twins with stock tranny? i know you can and keep the tunes mild but it is kind of putting the cart before the horse right

1,600+ on a stock transmission is way to high. Max effort built trans stuff runs warm but no way you should be that high with a stock transmission and it still be living.

I noticed we pull EGTs readings from the manifolds which gives a more accurate reading of the Temps at the cylinders. When. I had my 7.3s and the cummins guys that I talk to pull the egt post turbo in the dp. Curious as to why that is. I remember the forums say 1450 is the limit on the 7.3, may be because it's closer to 1550 or 1600 at the manifolds. Idk just something me and a buddy discussed once.

I used to peg the egt gauge at 1600 and it would just sit there it seemed like foever on my lmm. Lol..

Dont worry about it, nothing will change it except smaller tires, a regear or a less aggressive tune...

I drive mine in T/H manual, at 35-45 mph the transmission is in 4th gear and does not shift to 5th til around ~50mph when cruising, with the turbo spooled around ~1800 rpm roll into throttle and you have a much better chance of having him sucking your exhaust and have run mine up to 80mph locked in 4th. Mine will run up to about 1400-1600 degrees on both banks of cylinders in those types of scenarios running a 90hp tune, downpipe and 4" exhaust and a few other items...
