Won't start

Experienced a No start the other day .Tried to start truck and it acted like it started then dies.Noticed fuel gauge light on and figured what a dummy it ran out. Picked up some fuel dumped it in and it started. The weird thing is the truck showed full when it started and couldn't figure why it did that. Any suggestions as to what to check?

Need a bit more info on the truck, year / miles / mods etc.

Can't explain the low fuel light but check the filter head. They are notorious for developing air leaks.
