I have a 2012 dually with a 4" exhaust and a muffler installed. I would like to quiet the truck down and get rid of the exhaust drone. The options I'm looking at are:
1: Add a 17.5" FTE resonator and keep my current muffler.
2. Replace my current muffler with a 30" FTE resonator / muffler.
My exhaust is in multiple pieces and it looks like I can add either of the above configurations without any cutting or extra parts. Can anyone tell me which setup will get rid of the drone and make the truck quieter?

I've used and sold a ton of the Flowmaster pro series laminar flow mufflers to solve drone, it seems to work very very well without killing flow.

Put the Cat back on and run a cat-back system. You gain 0 performance benefit with the cat removed...

This is what the guys I trust most recommend if your tuned and making enough power you have to watch the EGTs. These mufflers are definitely way better then the resonator style. They can actually make your truck louder, but with a different tone so they "sound" quieter.

If you don't care about all that a more stock setup is best.

Flowmasters are crap at stopping drone, as said, I above, they are louder. I put their "diesel" muffler on, what a mistake and they wouldn't give me my money back.

My drone was brutal, right at highway rpm, mufflers don't work, found a post about adding a j tube behind the muffler. They give you the formula to figure out length. Added it, and I'll be a monkeys uncle, its dead quiet until 2200, then its gets noisey. Was going to fine tune but I rarely tow about 2100 rpm.
