The external spin on is simple. Just spin it off and spin the new one back on.

For the internal you need to drain the trans and drop the pan. Then it come right out. Make sure to remove the rubber seal too.

I get both of mine at the dealership

How hard is it to change a trans filter? Where do you get one? How do you change it? Who would you reccommend changing it? Thanks in advance

Changing the sump filter requires a pan drop only and the filter pulls right out and new one pushes right in. Pan gasket needs not be replaced ( reusable many times over ). Spin on filter is changed just like the engine oil filter from the outside. PPE sells them or Allison. Do not buy from GM dealer as it will cost you triple.

Oh I forgot.
The spin on also has a magnet on it. It usually stays on the transmission but check just to make sure. It sits on the center of the filter IIRC

and remember the filter lock if you have one on the sump filter
im not sure what the torque is on the Pan bolts

Like Mike said get it from allison or PPE as GM will overcharge
and make sure you get the right Sump filter deep pan or regular pan
