Time for Bearings, Brakes, and CV shafts

So at 240,XXX miles, its time to replace a few parts. Just ordered Hubs, front rotors, and, front brake pads from rock auto to replace along with the CV shafts I got last year.

The bearings were last replaced at 65k or 66k, so not disappointed with the life I got out of them.

CV shaft on passenger side ripped the boot and slung out all the grease so I'm gonna replace both sides while I'm in there.

The brakes are the original brakes that came on the truck so I'm very pleased with the life I got out of them. I went with the wave Slotted AC Delco Rotors and pads for brakes. Once I finish rebuilding the front end, I'm gonna order the matching Rotors and pads for the rear.

if your CVs are still good you can just reboot them. I've done it several times for $25 each axle.

Passenger side has ate itself since it slung out all its grease before I caught the torn boot. That's good to know going forward!

I got the passenger side all buttoned up other than torquing the CV shaft at the flange. Got the drivers side tore down and started on rebuilding it. I got the new drivers side CV shaft installed and the hub tightened down, but had to call it a night as I promised my boy a movie night!!! Now I'm relaxing watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with my son!!!


I'll finish the rebuild tomorrow after the rain or Sunday.


Also, what is the bed in process for new brakes and rotors?

Should be a process for beding in the brakes on the Box. I think I always did 5 medium stops from 45 miles an hour. Then 5 hard stops from 45mph. You want to do it somewhere where you have some room so you don't have to sit with your foot on the brake at a red light or something.

Got done with both sides and everything torqued back down. It really wasn't that bad of a job on the ground in the driveway.

The only Screw up I made was when I put the wrong Socket on my Lugs and rounded them off slightly

Oh well, I'll order a new set and replace the ones I messed up.

On another note, I was able to fix my EGT gauge as the red and yellow wires had somehow pulled out of the plug in the back of the gauge.

Now to order new brakes for the rear then I can go test them out!

Got the rear brakes done this morning and took it for a drive to bed in the new brakes. The rear brakes were much more worn than the fronts (~1/4 pad left) and it looks like some axle seals are seeping just a little bit so gonna keep an eye both sides to make sure they dont get any worse. Damn did it feel good to drive it again!! Also felt good to have both rides out front instead of back behind the shop!
