Silencing a 96 turbine

I had found the hard way that a 4" with a 30" FTE is way to restrictive for a 475/96 turning 4k+ rpms. My tuner told me 96mm flow alot of exhaust which I believe him because I couldn't go over 80mph at wot until the clamp to the muffler came loose and shot that off lol.

So I'm kinda set on a 5" mbrp but my problem is that Im not sure what choice is going to give me the most free flowing exhaust but not kill me with drone. So far until I make up my mind I'm running a 4" 4040xl and it's ok just to kill some
of the noise but doesn't flow 100%.

I'm honestly thinking of doing the mbrp 30" quiet tone and a JT or AT 5050 as close to the DP as possible. Is that going to be restrictive on the big end having two mufflers?

Help me spend my money lol

I have a 12” flo pro twister under my front seat. Kinda same principle as FTE just shorter and cheaper. Kills almost all drone even dumped, but factory turbo of course. Not sure if that’d still be too restrictive.

The 96 is a big mother of a turbine. I haven't tried to silence mine but I don't see why a quality 5" muffler wouldn't be out of the question. I'm running a HSP 3.5" downpipe to 4" straight with a 7" stack in the box on my built motor truck.

I've seen 5600rpm out of it once when I had a driveshaft failure last year, now the limiter is set at 5000rpm defuel/5200rpm hard cap. My shift points are 4350rpm @ WOT.

what size is your exhaust coming off the back of the turbine housing? is this thing remote mounted?

unless that muffler is choked down inside and is not a flow through design, thats not your issue. the back pressure/choke point is the down pipe. it wont hurt to jump to a 30" long 5" muffler but i dont feel thats your problem. i have a true 4" off the back of my 483 that then goes into a 5" 30" silverline muffler behind the trans and the only time its come off is because the band clamp i used couldnt get a good grip on it.

Holy hell I can only imagine trying to drive 3-4 hours with all that drone.

Yeah I just got new tunes from starlight as well. It seems like my shift points are in the 3800 range with maybe a 4200rev. I ran into a few hiccups during our tuning session. My oil cap wasn't seated and lost it. Then every tune had ended up having a mechanical governor set at 80mph. But that fell off when I finally gave it a go on tune 5. It hit 80mph for like a hair second and got loud and started gaining speed again.

The sad part is I went about 3 years living under the impression I was running a 475/87 with a .9 housing. Went to put a 1.0 t4 for an 87 and nope. Now that I've got tuning figured out it's been a blast to drive
