RIP Cruze Diesel?

I was browsing GM's engine selection for 2016 and noticed a lack of 2.0L diesel. I checked on Chevrolet's website and noticed that there is no longer a Diesel trim level or diesel engine mentioned. Anybody have information on this? Any speculation as to why (emissions or cost-prohibitive emissions equipment)?

It's being replaced by an all aluminum 1.8L

Is it going to be a GM design or another VM Motori? Sounds promising.

I know the 2017 is getting the diesel back. For some reason they put the diesel off 1 year from the new body style.

Looks like they are going with a 1.6L diesel allowing for B20. I'll try to dig up more information on it, but this press release mentions it for 2017.

Purely speculation, but it may be the "Medium Diesel". Matches the bill - all aluminum, 1.6L, etc.
