I bought a new rifle today. I did a little research before I picked it up, and the reviews I read and options it had were overwhelmingly positive. Hopefully I don't regret my decision. It's a Barnes Precision Machine CQB Patrolman's Carbine with MOE package. It has a forged 7075 aluminum upper and lower, 16" stainless 1:8 twist barrel chambered in .223 Wylde to accurately fire both 5.56 and .223 ammo. It has Magpul stock, grip, flip up sights, and 30 rd magazine. The top has a full length Picatinny rail and the full floating handguard is designed to work with Magpul 5 and 9 slot rail sections. It came in a hard case with foam cutouts. I'm not sure what I want to do for optics or accessories right now, but I'd love to hear from some recommendations from you guys. At the moment, I'm just excited to go run a few rounds through it.

Probably a small scope. I may do some sort of acog type animal at some point, but I think a scope would be more useful to me right now.
Probably just use it for shooting targets and maybe small game/varmints. It's gas.
Trijicon acogs are the ones to get. But for varmint there's no reason a cqb sight wouldn't work. For distance you can add a magnifier.
That said I still prefer a good old quality scope. A little 1-4x should be good.

Trijicon is the way to go but you can sink some serious money in one of them. Eotechs are nice as well I have used both.
I'm thinking exactly the same thing on the scope. That's probably what I'll do for now.

I've had eotechs, Aimpoints, ACOGs, and multiple scopes on various AR set ups. It comes down to personal preference but i really didn't like the ACOG, especially with how much i spent on it. I run and Aimpoint T1 on my current rifle, but for what you do i would highly recommend the Trijicon 1-4 accupoint in the Larue mount. I had that set up on a rifle i sold to a buddy and wish i would have kept it. And it was half the price of the ACOG almost.
Vortex 1-4 PST with a lit reticle. I've got that one on one of my builds and it's flawless. Kind of like a red dot and scope in one. Plus you can't top the warranty....
Put a barska 1-4x28 on my dpms 308.. Like it so far

Barska makes some good scopes also I had AC11392 huntmaster 223 scope on my last ar. It did excellent and didnt break me either. I think I paid about $200 for it.
I've been looking around the web at different scopes and stuff and reading reviews and posts on forums. I'm not really sure I want to spend $500+ on a scope for this thing, and I'm not sure I want to waste my money on a cheap scope either. I never had a scope or anything on any of the M16 or M4 rifles I fired in the military, and I never had a problem qualifying expert marksman. I may just leave it with the iron sights for now, and keep an eye open for a good deal on a used optic or a good sale.
I paid ~150.00 for linked version at walmart.. Little under range for a 16" 7.62x51/308 gun.... Like to get the 1-6x32 but that's ~300.00 to put on it..

Mine is 6-24x40 and it was perfect but I also had a 20" barrel. Being able to utilize both a scope and iron sights helps a bunch.
