O-Ring Cylinder Head Specs

Looking to send my cylinder heads to a machine shop to get O-rings put in.
Most people I have talked to are cutting wire to length and lightly tapping in with a hammer. Is there anyone out there that makes one piece O-Rings?

Does anyone have specs for cutting the cylinder head to give to the machine shop? What type and wire sie are people running?

the idea can be argued either direction and ive seen it done both ways. Both have worked

Have you talked to you machine shop yet? if this is new to them, think twice about going there.

Who’s fire rings are you using for the block? What size are they and does anyone have specs for cutting the block?
Are the rings you guys are using one piece or cut to length?

Fire rings are different than o-rings. Fire rings actually require a groove in the block and head to seal combustion gasses as well as require a special gasket and uses a solid piece/insert that is measured to the groove cut. O-ringing has you machine a grove in the head or block or both to use a steel wire to help bite into the MLS gasket allowing you to run a standard head gasket and is cut to length.


Are you wanting to do o-rings or fire rings? As said above, if your machine shop hasn't done this then I would recommend you find someone else or you may be playing with fire.

I am running around 900HP and 80lbs of boost.
Wagler sent me some O-Rings that are 0.070' thick and was told to cut 0.063', only leaving 0.007" of protrusion. Does this sound correct? What size wire is everyone running and how deep are you cutting?
I am just looking to O-Ring the head...

That should be fine. Personally I dont think you even need orings myself at that level.

I've heard this as well.

I'm around 1k and have the cheap ARP studs with a 0.050 gasket from SoCal and its held just fine at 70-72psi of boost out of my 475 with lots of fuel.

I do have the cheaper studs in mine also right 1100 hp with Danville 68 with 488 85 psi of boost still holding good but I am going to change over to the 625

going o-ring or fire ring is dependent on power level, what you plan to do with the truck and the abuse the engine will see. some guys need it at 1000hp, others get away till 1300hp.
