Just bought a 2005 2500HD to pull my boat, I know it has a lift pump and a tune with a knob on the dash, turning it up it will smoke like a freight train. How can I tell what has been added, and how can I reduce the smoke?? I bought this from a dealer so no way to talk to previous owner

most likely a DSP5 tune done with EFILive. usually the tunes get progressively stronger as you turn the knob. you can always have the dealer flash the truck with factory calibration and that will remove the effect of the switch. or just keep it on the lowest level

a common setup can be something like this

1. Stock
2. Tow +15 hp
3. Street +30 hp
4. Performance +60 hp
5. Race +120 hp

some will set them up with a economy tune, others with lope or smoke tunes, etc. just keep it on the first or second switch position will usually yield the least smoke. and if you don't know if you have a built transmission then keep it low to play it safe

That is good info, it is set up for fifth wheel so I am pretty confident who ever had it took care of the tranny as well. Pulls my boat really nice

Gotcha, I’m not looking for speed just a tow rig so I go easy on it
