This week is BUB, which is a motorcycle LSR event at Bonneville. Cliff Gullett was piloting a 500cc Yamaha streamliner bike at over 200mph when the bike crashed for unknown reasons. IIRC, his team of Costella-Gullett set the LSR in his class two weeks ago during Speedweek.
While there were 5 crashes during speedweek, none were fatal. The same safety equipment is used for BUB, but unfortunately it was not enough.
I didn't meet Cliff, but I probably saw him while I was there. Prayers out to his family and friends, Godspeed Cliff.
