Just put on my Mag-Hytec diff cover and made sure to clean out the inside with brake cleaner really well.

The new cover has a dipstick in it with a magnet on the stick.

I checked the stick today, one day after the install to find a bunch of shavings on it.

Any insight?

Doesn't look that bad to me. As long as there are no big pieces when you drain the oil you should be ok. I have seen brand new ones with more crap in them than that!!

If your running a lot of power, the drivers side carrier bearing takes a ton of thrust, and the bearing doesn't last too long. After a season of truck pulling when I pull out my Mag-hytec dipstick, it looks like a lolly pop. I have some pics somewhere showing the junk bearing. I'll see if I can find them.

Not one days worth of metal SS... you werent able to clean the backside of the gears (what wasnt facing the rear and visible) so once you moved the truck and the gears rotated some was probably dislodged. Nothin to worry about imo.
