Bought a used short block from a guy up here in Canada. Heads from another fella in up here as well but a different guy. Please see attached. One is the piston from one cylinder. 2 more have marks on the inner bowl. Other pictures are the injector bore on the So Cal stage 1s that were supposed to be stage 2s. Just looking for opinions on whether it is a good coffee table or mildly useable.

Thanks.

Looks like it dropped a valve or made contact with one

Have you measured the Piston protrusion yet?

Trying as a screenshot. Says it worked. One has touched a valve. Just looking for opinions as to wether I attempt to return this. Bought both wrapped up “good to go”

Yeah, that last photo looks like it is eating through the Piston from excessive heat.

It's definitely melted/eroded on the last picture. Not a good thing at all. Also got a valve contact pretty good on the other. Could you use it if you had too, yes.

Depends on how much you paid, and what other parts are in the short block. Cylinder walls in decent shape?

To give you a rough idea, 10k. Included the fingers, carillos, cam, welded water pump, merchant mounts, head studs, super damper. Stock mains and bolts though. Heads were another purchase that I know I got screwed on as I paid for stg2s and they are 1s. Yes the walls are decent and the block is clean as far as condition goes.

The head concerns me and looks like it lifted and started to torch the bore a little bit.

The short block could be ran if you needed to. Like above, depends on what you paid and what else is in the short block.

imho, you paid too much for the issues at hand.

i wouldnt use that short block, those issues would bug the shit out of me knowing they are there and could potentially kill the block

Unfortunately I agree. Really bad that you cannot trust anyone these days. I am at the same point however neither seller is doing anything for me unless I send the pistons back, so I will likely end up running it. Will not see many miles however thats probably a null point now.

So you are saying they won't do anything unless you send the pistons back to them?

If that is the case send the pistons back and then re balance the rotating assy. It isn't horrible to do.

He is offering me back $1000 if I give him these pistons back, would have to buy at least 3 new Fingers, and have him weight them all properly, so realistically I will not be any further ahead money wise.

Personally, at that point, I would be sending the guy the complete short block back.

You bought it at his word that it was "good" and it is far from in terms of the damage to the pistons. For $10k you can build a complete short block to mirror it, all you did was save time by purchasing it completed.

Both sellers need to be hung from their scrotums until they take the short block and heads back and give you all your money back, including any shipping costs/additional costs you incurred. I hate f-ing thieves.

Then you can start over.
