I'm sure this is not a new experience to any of you. It's broken clear in the middle where the splines go into the diff. I tried a magnet, how strong does it have to be? 5 pound? stonger. Or am I going to have to tear it clear apart? It was a clean break. l

Oh ya, and a 3-2 downshift on a tight track is a bad idea with 35's even if it is a stock turboed truck. Don't ask how I know.

You will need a pretty serious magnet! The surface tension of the oil makes it difficult to remove. You can also pull the other axle and push it out with some dowel. I believe 1/4" will do the trick.

i just broke my axel last week too... lol mine broke right by the wheel hub, borrowed a pretty beefy magnet and had to tunk on the housing with a hammer slightly to knock it loose.

It takes one super beefy magnet. Neighbor had one from a maytag washer. It was super strong. Also thought maybe a cattle stomach magnent might work, but I didn't even have to go that far. Thanks!
