I usually get a sunroof harness from a junkyard Suburban which gives Retained Accessory Power right to the center console. Then just wire in a cheap 12V to USB adapter. Works great.

Pulling power off the mirror means the dash cam would shut off with the key, which might be fine for most use cases. I prefer it to be on RAP though.

Awesome thanks guys. I already sunk $55 into that harness, so I'm kind of committed to it, but it should work for me just fine as long as the key is on in the ignition.

I got the gen5diy harness yesterday and installed it, along with the 12v to 5v USB Mini step down module. I went with this one: HOMREE DC 8-35V to DC 5V Step-Down Converter Buck Module 12V/24V to 5V 3A 15W Mini USB Output Power Adapter, it had the best reviews for the price.

Boy was it a pain in the ass to fit all of that under that little plastic cover, but it sure looks clean!
