H11 halogens in 2015 GMC fog light housing

Anyone tried running H11 (55w) headlight bulbs in a 15’ Sierra fog light housing without melting the housing or popping a fuse? I have a few spares out the the garage from the 08’ and thought I’d run them if it’ll work, obviously I’ll adjust the housings down.

I’m pretty sure you’ll need to run bigger wire. The housing should handle the heat or just use an LED. You still cannot drive with them around other cars no matter how you adjust them

Id use an LED bulb. Just did something similar for my friend's car (Chrysler 300) and boy, are those lights BRIGHT.

I’ll just run stock then, I wasn’t wanting to go much brighter and blind everyone, I already get highbeamed by some cars, just had some silver star ultras laying around and wondered if it’d work, thanks guys.

I went with and H11 LED. Before I decided to do that I was check the temps of the factory bulb. In 95* weather, in the sun,and the truck idling for hrs. the head light was consistently 250* the lower portion the lens was 300°. I checked it with an infrared thermometer.

That's crazy hot, probably melt the housing for sure, I'll go with LED like you and Tom mentioned, truck maybe gets driven 3-500 miles a month tops now so I've kinda forgot about it. I get out some new 33x12.50 atturo mt's on yesterday finally, got 45k miles out of the Nitto ridge grapplers, but for the price and reviews I'd figure I would try em out.

I'm the same Reger, didn't want to constantly get flashed "unless it's titties" lol. I went with the morimoto xb led and they are great, spread is really good and I gave not once ever been flashed by an oncoming vehicle and my truck is lifted 4". They are coming up on 5 years now with zero issues.
