The dash bezel I guess you'd call it. I was thinking that the older GM radios weren't a true double din and you had to change/modify the dash

That's 01-02 only, they require a complete new bezel and moves the HVAC down a touch. 03-07 classic is double din size and usually requires some trimming behind the radio depending on how thick/deep it is.
