Differences in weight?

First off if this isn’t the right place for this please move. Debated between this and chassis

Anyways onto my question. Pretty soon hopefully I’ll be looking for another 01 or 02 Chevy. I want an LS trim so no leather and just a few options. Plan is to build a nasty daily driven street/strip machine. So. What’s the weight difference between a rclb, ecsb, and ccsb? The dream is to build a rcsb stubby truck. But if the extra cab space doesn’t add that much weight the the extra cargo room would be nice. Otherwise that’s what a bed cover is for. Just looking for a decently light street machine. I believe the diff between CC and EC was a bit more than 200 lbs. Its more between the RC and EC, but I dont know the number.

Awesome thanks Tom. So in terms of drag times, about what do you think that’d equate to? Would the regular cab be enough of a weight difference to drop the times? Especially if chopped to a short bed?

I think a regular cab long bed or a extended cab short bed is your best option.

I personally wouldn't do a regular cab short bed for a dedicated racer.

Here some pics of my ECSB with the roll bar inside, great truck, drove it all over the country to races. Real sleeper and still running on the 2009 build. Wished I still had it.

That’s awesome. Thanks for the pics. That’s my goal I think. I’m assuming the pin in last pic is to take the bar out for daily use?

Ecsb will keep cage inside the cab.

I always go back to Rob and Pat saying "200lbs/10th" about these trucks. IMO they were correct. How else could I get a CC to run low 12s on stock parts?

I dont agree with the RC/SB opinion concerning race truck. The wheelbase is essentially the same as a '70s Chevelle or Cutlass. You can use the same theories that leaf spring cars of that size would use to get these trucks to launch correctly.

Ive said it a million times, I'll say it again.....its all in how the parts you use work together. Throw a bunch of mismatched stuff together, your truck wont run worth a damn. Match things up correctly, you get a great result.

More details on this Tom? Sorry if I’m asking too much. I just really wanna learn this stuff. And being a 4wd and doing 4wd launches, would this affect it as much? Also, seeing the guy with the zf6 LLY (Jesse is his name maybe?) pull multiple 780hp passes on a stock bottom end, I know the zf6 plays a part in it but I also believe the weight does as well. Less stress On the engine to get the truck going. And if the 200 lbs per 10th is correct, then a rcsb could possibly be 2-4 tenths faster at the same exact setup and driver?

Awesome info Tom. Thank you. That’s what my plan was. No point in a 2wd truck in my opinion. Thinking about a 4wd 01 or 02 rclb LS truck chopped to a short bed. Built trans. 100 or 150 overs. 12mm pump. Maybe 14? And an s475. Should make a nasty street truck. Think that’d make for a 10 second truck? Also I know nothing about cages and those kinda of rules... can anyone tell me or point me to an article where I can learn more? Thanks again guys

Chris down here in Phoenix.


My single cab long bed o got down to 5330lbs pretty easily. With the roll bar it went up to 5500.

My half ton is 3700 and feels so much faster :roflmao:

As far as the 100lbs is .1 I respectfully disagree to that. For heavy trucks and diesels, it's more.like 2-250lbs is a tenth. Atleast it was in my personal findings.

Yes the bar comes out for daily driving, both sides are pinned on both ends. Here is a better picture of the roll bar.

I didn't know you sold it, What are playing with now?

Hi Joe sold it in 2014 and now race the Ford Falcon gasser in my Avatar. Lots of fun and I don't hold my breath every time down the track worried I'm going to break it. Although I have to admit, White Out was a good truck once we got the tranny issues figured out.
