Check those hood springs.

I was looking over some things after my trip to Louisiana yesterday and when I closed my hood. There was a loud bang and something went shooting across my shop.
Never seen this before probably not all that uncommon. The spring worked its way out of the recess in the hinge and shot out from underneath the hood while closing it. The other side had worked its way out an 1/8” so I tapped it back in with a hammer.
I got the spring back on the hinge and put it back on the truck. I’m not sure if this is going to be OK or if I just need to replace the hinges because they’re going to continue to work out of the recess.

I had one on either the 04 or the 06 that lost tension. I found it laying on top of the inner fender. Put it back on, and even after giving it an extra turn of tension, it was not right and ended up replacing it.

Once they start working out of the groove, keep an eye on it, might be a fluke, or the ears may be tweaked in the center of the spring letting it walk out.

Wow, never seen that before. Good thing to keep an eye on. I like that the new trucks went to gas springs for the hood support. Yes the gas springs can eventually go bad, but they are quiet and smooth.

I prefer the older springs white lithium grease makes them just as quiet as the gas shocks
