And you don't really need to worry about cca. You need to look at total amperage. And when you buy a new one I would go with a good marine deep cycle battery.

I would go with a deep cycle battery. Marine batteries are usually a mix of starting and deep cycle use. In his application a deep cycle would be a better option.

Exactly. Any battery displaying cold cranking amps is not normally a true deep cycle. The ones marketed as dual rated or marine are usually not good at either cranking or deep cycle.

The yellow top optima batteries were the best of both worlds for a while. I still have one in a generator that's 21 years old.
