Ok, so as I am just easing myself into this field I have some questions. As per the VIN check I found out I am running 3.73 gears with locker and my truck is on 35s with a 6 inch lift.

After doing some readign I see alot of talk about going to 4.10...is this advised?

I have no experience with gearing and the truck came with the lift. I put the 35s on.

I just got my VIN check so if I need to put more info up just let me know.

I am just looking for someone to explain this area to me even though I know it is broad in scope.

Thanks

thanks for the quick response, I am trying to get stuff together and fixed before I had the truck over for a year to the family.

Only time I would change would be if I had the six speed and a larger turbo. They are about perfect with the five speed tranny.

cool, I think I will be keeping them then! any advice on changing the gear oil in the diff before I move 800 miles? figured it would be a good idea.

what are your plans for the truck? i pull heavy (and in the mountains) and the 4.10's were a welcome mod after the 35's. but it was a cheaper decision for me because im 2wd :). my next set of tires will be 33's and back to stock gears. thats when i got the best mileage from my truck.

I mainly was just curious to see what recommendations I would get. Mine is a daily driver, not to many mountains up here. I only have an 800 mile move to NC and back befroe deployment and then it is going back to the family for a year in NC. So I guess 3.73 should be fine.:thumb:

I always say regear especially on a 6 speed alli. I can still do 130 mph with the 4.56 gears which is fast enough to go to jail. Just my $.02

Slightly different animal, but my old man has been running 37's with 3.54's on his 12 valve Dodge for about a decade with zero issues.

22 highway mpg and will effortlessly pull whatever you hook to it.

you cant relate this to a 12 valve cummins, those make tq lower in the rpm and will be fine with taller tires (likes to be lugged at low rpm. A duramax with 35s sucks for towing unless you tow in 4th gear at 70mph or tow at ,80+mph, because you fall under the charger and bogs when you are pulling up hills. 4.10s or 4.56s will be better to tow with and egts will be lower; it will a little more rpm/air flowing through the engine. I have had 3 sets of 35s and a 6" lift with stock gearing, and really sucked for towing or pulling hills with a decent size load. Take it for what its worth.
