Default My do it your self new fuel lines

Well my return line took a crap and started pissing diesel out of a pin sized hole (northern ohio rust belt) so i decided to redo the entire fuel line system on my truck. Right now i just have the return done but will be doing the feed soon. Parts are listed here for the return line
-1-3/8 double bead line
-2-3/8 16mm hex nut o ring fittings with a nipple on the opposite ends (these screw into the factory fuel cooler)
-2- 3/8 quick disconnect fittings w/barb ends
-3/8 inner diameter push lock hose

I yanked the old return lines out un-threaded the lines from the cooler, installed the new o-ring lines in the cooler, reinstalled cooler. Snapped the double bead end line into the factory return line right at the tank, ran the new fuel hose down along the frame rail from the engine bay and all the way to the cooler return feed line and pushed it over the nipple. (No hose clamps required. I dont think there is a whole lot of pressure here and the push-lok hose fits very snug) Next i cut the hose up by the factory return line near the glow plug controller. Installed one of the quick disconnect fittings into the hose and snapped it into the return line. Next i went back by the cooler and pushed the hose over the other nipple in the cooler (outlet) and then measured and cut the line to fit to the other end of the bead line. Installed the other quick disconnect fitting into the hose and snapped it in to the bead line. And thats it fir the return line. I know this is all pretty self explanatory but it was kind of a chore to track down all the right fittings and lines. I plan on running 1/2 inch fuel feed line from my fass lift pump outlet to a "Y" distribution block under the hood (incase i decide to do duel fuelers down the road) and then straight into the cp3. The dis. block i found also has a 1/4 inch port for a fuel pressure sensor too. Anyhow here are some pics and if anyone has questions let me know. This is a nice fix to the issue of rusted out fuel lines and for better fuel flow.

Perfect timing...I've got 2 pinhole leaks in my return line.

Any idea of the length of hose you needed to get from the engine bay to the fuel cooler?

Your frame looks as bad as mine. Fuel lines are probably my next wonderful under-truck adventure.

What part numbers are the earls fittings for pressure and return next to the glow plug module?

Oh i know it makes me sick although now everything on my truck will be replaced as far as rusted lines. I did the entire coated brake line kit from GM last winter when i did the head gaskets and studs in my garage. And painted the frame up in the engine bay. I want to pull the bed soon and paint the back half of the frame sometime. But either way my rockers and cab corners are shot. Oh well its a 10 year old truck.

The fitting for the return line up top in the engine bay is part# AT991966ERL but you also will need a 6AN female to barb fitting if you wanna do the push lock hose. Its kind of pricey but i wanted something metal in the engine bay and that looked good. If someone wanted a more budget friendly option they could use the plastic quick disconnect fitting up top like i did with the cooler return line at the tank. I dont have a number for the feed since I'm just going to pull that all out and run a 1/2" line straight into the cp3.

I bought a 20' roll from summit part# FRA-862006 (says parker on the hose) and i had plenty left over. Id say 15' would do just fine.

And a couple other tips for everyone is if you are dealing with these rusted out, the lines do not want to come out of the female factory dis-connects. I had to rebuild the one coming from the sending unit at tank and it was a pain finding a new steel retaining clip that goes in side those. But after tracking one down i realized i could have just used the one from the engine bay line (since it isn't rusted up top) and also with that line from the sending unit i clamped it shut because fuel does not want to stop flowing out. Also while on the topic about fuel stuff i also put in a beans sump and i loved the install and how well it went. I like the one big bolt design it uses. Hardest part was waiting for the tank to drain from the pilot hole from the hole saw.

Nice work. When my time comes I may do stainless braided lines.

A beans sump is in the plans too. And I'm also running it straight to the cp3 with a tee for a pressure gauge.

Looking at the cost of the lines at $45.00 plus shipping and rock auto has a brand new cooler with lines for $118.00, so for another $63 I can get a brand new cooler/fittings.

45 bucks for those fittings/lines is insane. I paid no more than $10 a piece for mine.

I swapped supply already.. Compression 1/2" to -8 male fitting and braided -8 line..
Was going to do return.. Bought a hard line to female vs male.

I've swapped the supply aswell. I was able to just run the airdog line directly to the quick connect at the engine bay and the fitting on the airdog works perfect with the factory fitting.

Hmmm interesting, heres my 1/2'' feed line set up. Using the push loc hose from the lift pump to a 'y' distribution block then from that straight into the cp3. Also i put my fuel pressure gauge into the distribution block.
