I am putting billet parts and checking everything out in my buddies trans. It was already built by a fairly local shop. The truck is getting a decent build and will be around the 900-1,000hp mark. I usually modify the stock valve for no converter knock down. This one has a trans go valve in it and unfortunately I don’t have any spare early 5 speed valves. Is it possible for me to tig weld up the hole on the end and the hole on the body and grind the valve just like you would a factory one? Or is there a better method, or is it just best to leave it and still let it knock it down some?

What year? I'd just grind it and leave the spring / ball in there

It’s an 02 trans. I know on the earlier ones on the stock valve you weld the hole in the end. I don’t know if I should do that to the trans go valve as well.

Your transgo valve still has a hole on the inner most end? I was thinking the old style valves had a hole, but came with a cup plug you had to install. Last one I installed for an 01-02 was solid on the end.

Do yourself a favor and get a stock Valve spring and retainer to modify.

10-4, I'll order a replacement. Which PN valve do you recommend?

Depends on what year your stator assembly is which valve you need.

Yeah, I found my book. Looks like it'll either be 29541144 or 29537334 depending on the stator. The truck is an 04 so I believe it could go either way depending on mfg date of the trans.

Can I swap stator assemblies to a 6 speed or are they different? Or even swap the whole stator, plate, pump assembly
