i had my truck at the dealer for a injector check and the mechanic went over everything else. he said the right front wheel bearing is goin so i brought the truck home jacked it up and there is no play. so i read this thread and saw that it said "You can tell if the wheel bearing is shot by jacking the truck up til the wheel is off the ground, grabbing the top and bottom of the tire and try to pry it in and out. ANY movement is wear. A stocker will not move. Ours were worn to the point of more than 2" slop at the tire with 50,000mi on the truck. You can drive pretty far worn bearings without fear of the wheel departing the truck due to the captive design of the unit." so if a stock wheel bearing is shot it wont move???

If the wheel doesn't move, then it's fine.

Like Kat said, there will be NO play in the new GM unit.

I bought an aftermarket assembly after getting sticker shock from the price of the GM unit...big mistake. Installed the new aftermarket unit and checked it after it was all back together...it had more play than the wore out original unit I was replacing

I had to tear it back off, put the wore out one back on so I could drive the truck the next day, return the pos aftermarket one, and then go buy the GM unit and install that.

Where they these? I bought these for Blue but Pat hasn't had time to install them yet.

I honestly could not say Kat...it was over a year ago.

I looked back through my service receipts and don't have that one, I should have wrote the name down.

The problem was, the play was not noticable until the wheel was installed and you could get leverage on the assembly.

Looks like I'm gonna tackle this for the second time on the exact same wheel.
I changed the driver's front somewhere between 40k and 80k miles and now I"m on 118k and have play. I'm gonna have to try summit this time, sounds cheap. Just hope their product is not.
Thanks again.

funny, I just found an assembly on ebay for $32 less, exact same part number, but it's listed as National Bearing whereas summit is listed as Wheel Bearings Unitized...............
