Default This is what I worked on Thursday

I had been having the slab poured and the framing sitting in the yard for almost 1 year ( yeah, thats right, 1 year)

With the help of 3 friends and a little sizzor lift that I rented, we stood this bitch up. Just have to order my insulation, cut out for the 3 windows, 2 doors and put on the sheet metal.

May be a little while before it's done, but at least I see progress!!

Awesome. I hope you don't mind but I'm in the market and have been looking at a lot of em & have a few questions...

Is it a kit? What brand? What size is it? What's the side wall height? Peak height? Garage door sizes? Price complete if you don't mind sharing? If you do, I understand.

No problem at all

I actually bought it at the end of 08. They held it for me for 18 mos. I took delivery in June of '10. Then I broke my wrist July 3rd. There went the whole summer. Then I worked alot of OT the rest of the year.

Bought it from

Americo-steel out of Waco, tx.
It was not really a package. I still gotta buy the walk in doors, windows and garage doors and insulation.

I could have gotten it all thru them, but chose to source those on my own

I paid $6200 for all framing, trim, sheeting, and screws. Delivered.

It's 30x30 with 12' eaves. 4/12 pitch 17'6" peak. Also not shown in the pic is a 10'x 30' over hang on the right hand side.

I have $7200 in the slab!! I poured alot extra though. Aprons and such. 51 yards total

The garage doors are gonna be 10x10. Still working on pricing for those, but the best I got so far is $2600.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do plan on sheeting the walls. I'm also gonna have a bath, with shower in the corner, 8x30 loft, and full kitchen in there. Work bench is gonna be about 17' or so long. And I'm gonna do air comp drops along the bench, with an air reel btwn the 2 garage doors. Oh, and both doors will have openers. ( no lift )

I also plan on two 24,000 btu air/heat wall units.

Very nice,i wouldnt count a lift out i love mine it was 1875 brand new for a 9000 pro doesnt blink an eye rasing a cclb duelly, bad thing is my neighbors love it also

Sounds like you got some good plans already just make sure you throw alot of outlets in it sucks trying to find an outlet and when you do its already got 4 things plugged into it,keep us updated on the progress i love garage builds, dont forget to wire for 2 tv's 1 in each back corner that way you can have 2 football channels on at the same time and a big fridge full of beer

Look at rollup doors. They aren't as expensive as you'd think if you shop around. This will give you more useable inside room than a tilt up. IIRC, I paid under 3k for 2 doors, 12x14 + 16x8 with power remote openers.

Go as tall as possible on doors. You never know what you'll be doing in 10 years, and it reduces chances of a forklift boo-boo. Plus you get more light in the building when you open it.

Wiring ideas:

Unlike a house, put outlets at 40" off floor. This allows workbenches to fit better and easier to use power.
Using quad socket outlets, run both phases and a neutral into each. The addition cost for wires isn't that much, but it allows you to plug a 240v device into any socket easily, and you get more max amps available at that outlet (2 are one phase, 2 are other phase) if you run into a bind. For a shop, 2x 12ga wire on 2x 20amp breakers will be cost effective, yet permit up to 7hp or a large welder to used at any outlet on 240v, or 2x 5hp devices at one outlet on 120v by plugging into different sockets.

EDIT: phase isn't the right word. Your residential power has 2 hots and a neutral. The two hots = 240v when connected together, no neutral.

Thats exactly what i did Pat and i only put 3 outlets on a circut so it would be very hard to over load it,i also riged up a pigtail from the welder outlet to fit the generator so when power goes out its not out for long and i back feed the house so last winter when the power went out around here for 3 days i was pissing the neighbors running my christams lites
