Default Question about lift pumps

I've searched around and had a question on lift pumps. Coming from the powerstroke world, talking abou TV running an airdog/Fass is like talking about the anti christ. Everyone has horror stories of them constantly failing and motors burning up. Not sure if this is from the earlier models or not. Planning on buying an AD ll 4g in the next few weeks, but just want to be sure I'm spending my money well and wondering why no one runs an aeromotive or fuel lab type pump like I'm used to seeing. If anyone's got a thread they can point me to I'd appreciate it.

Nothing wrong with the aeromotive or fuel lab, just most like the all in one design, and lower price. The powerstroke is a bit harder on pumps as they run a good bit higher fuel pressure than a duramax can handle stock.

From my experience when i worked for XDP slinging parts it mostly comes down to price and installation. FASS/Airdog (165GPH)are similarly priced with FASS being cheaper but what i found is that a lot of people dont want to deal with the installation of the fass which includes dropping the tank to install their draw straw so they will pay a tad more for the airdog. then again there are plenty of other pumps that dont require a draw straw.

The bigger suction tube is a beneifit for the pumps that include it but in my opinion not necessary unless you're going with big fuel upgrades.

i personally run a Airdog2 165 (insane deal) but if it was up to me id run a Fuelab 200 pump. its a superior pump in every way, but i will set you back about 150 more than a similar product from FASS/Airdog.

and as far as longevity ....they all have failures so pick your poison

Aeromotive just displayed their new diesel pump with air seperator and filers at SEMA. It is similar to an AIRDOG or FASS. I saw a short video of it on Diesel Army Magazine's website.

I've had Kennedy twin pumps on my lly since 2008 and have had no issues. Almost 200k miles on the pumps. I've had them on my lmm since 2012 and no issues as well. About 50 k on them.

for a price tag over $1000 it better do more than pump fuel

Seriously. Even the standard fass/airdog seem too expensive to be honest.

Their 01-10 Duramax Diesel Retrofit kit lists at $1,385.45.

Their 01-10 Chevy Duramax Diesel Lift Pump kit lists at $1,827.96.

And I thought FASS was expensive. I'll just stick with my AIRDOG 1.
