Default Machine Screw Sizes.

Ever wonder what a 2-56 or 4-40 screw size means?

Here's how you figure it out.

First number is the major diameter, it can be 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,8,10. Second number is the threads per inch.

The major dia is .060" + ( .013 x size).

So an 0-80 is .060" dia + ( .013 x 0 ) = .060" dia with 80 tpi.
A 10-32 is .060 + ( .013 x 10 ) = .190" with 32 tpi.
