As for the comment on the Carrillo HD rods, it was my understanding they were only making those for the Cummins crowd right now.
At UCC they had a set there for a hybrid kit in the Duramax. They came out 4 months after I ordered my hybrid kit (standard Carrillo rod structure/thicknesses). From my understanding, they are available for order as they are listed in the product sheets on their website.

I'm not sure but I figure Guy will be sending Mike's rods straight back to Carillo for analysis after he looks them over. I'm not sure on Tony's but I'll ask. I couldn't agree with you more on this Josh, Mat is definitely someone to lean on in this situation for some addition info that we just won't get anywhere else.

I wonder how much ultrasonic testing is being done on these when being made...and what the detection limit is....

That's what sucks about performance. It's always hard to tell. I don't see Carrillo admitting fault either way. But also many things can cause it. It just had me wondering if there was not just a bad batch recently. Like Evan said. It could have just been odd timing for many to fail recently. I'm going to be using a set in a 800hp build I'm doing soon on a project.

Where all these rods new? Do we have any idea if they were purchased within a few months of each other? That would bring some validity to the "bad batch" theory.

Mark, did the rod bend or did it separate/fracture? You mentioned that the piston was still in the bore. I have had gas engines fracture rods from over revving. Just curious.

Without seeing it myself I would have to guess it fractured at the small end of the rod because the piston was still intact and in the bore but the rod connected to the crank did some serious damage.
