Default Mark's 72stg2R 4094 billet turbo

Didn't know if there's anyone else running one, if so here's my personal review. Running this on a built motor truck, modificatons in signature.
I previously had a DTS 72 4094. This new 72R will run circles around it in all areas. It is near instant spool up with 60% injector and korys tuning. This turbo loves top end Power above 2700rpm. Haven't hooked to a trailer yet this week but so far i don't think it'll be an issue because of how effortlessly it pulls itself on the highway cruising at 650egts. Gets 16.8 mpg hand calculated. It will be hooked up to a 25ft goose this weekend and I will post the results, I recommend this turbo to anyone who's wanting moreally power than a 68r and is on a strong lower end. Really happy with this turbo . Thanks Mark !

if you wouldnt mine, could you do a "spool up test" for me?

basically, get her into 5th, run RPMs down to 1500rpm with converter locked and give it the go pedal. this generally best using a log setup with EFI Live but we measure the time it takes from the initial hit of the throttle to when you hit 20psi.

No one has done this test with the 72 from mark yet and im curious where it would land in comparison to the 68.

I'm curious about what is James asking as well. I'm curious how well it drives and tows with the 60% overs. Personally, I didn't think the 60% overs would be enough to spool the 72r to achieve its full potential.

oh there is plenty of fuel in 60% overs to do it. its all on how much pulse width you wanna run .

Everyone I've talked to is saying I need to go 100%s but Im not going to due to I want to keep it better to tow with. Also from what I've heard is its for twin only set-ups. I don't know anyone else running this turbo as a single, figured I'd give it a try. I do not have a drive pressure Guage but will be getting one soon. Anyone else running one feel free to chime in and give advice for hard parts/tips. I'll do a spool test tomorrow

Did a spool test tonight on the way home, using my phone it is around 2.1-2.45 seconds going from cruising at 1500rpm, letting off throttle completely, then pushing it hard as it would go without downshifting until it hits 20psi. Very impressed. 3rd tune will rip the tires loose like its nothing at 60. If someone has away to upload videos i would be more than happy to email them to someone. This turbo has some insane turbo whilstle

2 seconds to spool from less than 1600 RPM? Man you VGT guys have it nice!

I loaded up a TCM tune to dyno the truck tomorrow, and for fun, I did the same test. My truck is built for a big single, and with normal TCM tuning, if I get on the gas, it will downshift and go, no problem. So this would never be able to happen normally:

  • 4th gear, 1505 RPM (40 MPH) to 20 PSI = 9.166 seconds
  • 5th gear, 1518 RPM (56 MPH) to 20 PSI = 15.949 seconds
On the 5th gear roll, I was at 70 MPH before I hit 10 PSI (13.3 seconds in lol), then another 2.6 seconds to go from 10->20 PSI and 70->75 MPH. For comparison with my normal tuning, if I am doing less than 80 and punch it, I drop a gear.

I left all my MAF limits in place, this test resulted in no smoke out the exhaust. If I let it smoke some, I bet it would come up a lot harder, but this is my street tune, and I cut all the smoke I can. And with a downshift to get things above 2,100 RPM, it comes up just fine

So that is what us idiots with big fixed geometry singles, big cams, and tall gearing would have to deal with if a downshift wasn't possible. Thankfully, if I let it drop a gear, it comes on boost in a second or two, locks the converter, and I'm gone.

Glad to hear you love it sir! The newest version is pretty awesome and we are doing some amazing things with them in twin and triple setups but I haven't put much into testing it as a single. Currently my plan is to dial my truck in right now with the built motor and 68mm Stg2R and see how fast it goes compared to what it did in the fall with the stock motor. Then I was going to twin over it and see where it lands but I may do the 72mm test instead... So much stuff that I want to do but no time to get it all done in unfortunately!

Side note, just dynoed a built LBZ with the 72Stg2R/Triple S369 setup non-gated and it made 85psi boost and 1077hp 1780ftlbs on my dyno today. Thing is an animal on the street, pretty much instant power anytime you want and burns clean!

More than happy with it! Only thing I wish I would have done is go to a 71mm clipped turbine and an hx40 downpipe flange. I already have the downpipe but I was too pumped to get the turbo in to wait longer for more work on it. Who knows, maybe it'll come back out this fall for one. If I put down over 800 with it the way it is now I'll leave it and be happy. Very easy to tow a trailer also

I was looking to see how it would work in my environment for towing. His times are right on par for my modded stock turbo lol. I want to be able to build boost at 1500rpm at 50mph in 5th gear when towing. I don't like down shifting lol

Towed a light little 15foot bumper pull dual axle trailer with 2500 pounds of weight on it and it did perfect. Sucks the fuel though, but thats soon to be fixed in the tuning. Cruising on the flat highway doing 65mph around 1800rpm egts were 775* at 7psi boost. Very happy with this
