BTW anyone remember what the 2 different threads sizes are used in oil LML oil galley plugs are? The LML oil pressure sensor is conflicting with my coolant hose routing in pic above. So gotta plug that hole, and go back to LMM/LBZ sensors. Also need to stick a temp sensor in another.

Dyno adapter assembly done !!
Tempered the spline shaft at 800F, then let it cool overnight. Which changed it from the nice pretty black to dull brown. Then we had to heat the end plate to press fit onto the shaft with only one key. Then drove second key into the slot to lock it in place. According to my blacksmith machinist, only way it's coming apart is in pieces. Before pressing bearings into the hub, we cut a notch for access to press them back out when need replaced. Then we pressed the hub onto the shaft assembly. Nice tight fit, with about .200" clearance between hub and driveshaft faceplate. I had planed to cut a snap ring grove into the shaft below the splines as a safety so it couldn't walk out. However the shop who cut the splines went a little deep and skewed our measurements. So I'll just tig a flat washer on there and call done. I don't expect to be taking it back apart anytime soon. |

The shaft slides into the damper, and bolts thread into the rear cover, so it must be close..
Assembly takes a 1/4 turn of the engine to line up the access holes, but chit fits. Now I just need to find a dyno with that matching 8 bolt drive shaft flange pattern and we're set... ![]() Last edited by kidturbo; 08-08-2018 at 02:28 AM. |

The engines wrapper arrived from paint today. Sure wish I had some engines ready to drop in there...

It already looks fast. Even without a fancy paint job or pin stripping

Does it get a graphics wrap at some point?
Can you remind us again what the goals are for this boat with this engine combo? And out of curiosity, what made the owner decide to do duramax engines? Are they just crazy diesel folks like us or what?

![]() Quote:
A 100mph diesel cruiser had been a dream of his for several years, but no one over there was willing to tackle it. I was first person to say Hell Ya!! Choice of hull is what ya might call a sleeper. Baja has never been considered a high performance design. More in line with a Mustang vs a Lambo in the boating world. This boat was likely the fastest Baja ever built, with top end around 96mph according to people who knew it. Previous owner posted a speedo recall at 114mph, to which I ask "Behind what model truck??" This boat rolled out of the factory with twin 900SC and Mercury #6 drives. In 2004 that was big factory power, and your only other performance option was tipple 700SC's in this boat. Tripp's are cool but typically slower than twins on inboards. Both designs drank fuel faster than my buddies chugs beers. And requires 1000amps of power just to hear the radio.. So taking what we learned from the OG 21' PPE boat, doubled it, and added some upgraded driveline parts. Now we should have a 100mph+ top end, 3-4mpg overall economy, and ability to sneak up on those unsuspecting Lambo owners who will say, "that can't be fast cause it's a Baja with diesels..." Why else would you scap these >> ![]() |

Looked shorter with all those graphics didn't it? Boats are like snow skis, longer = faster.
Owners daughter is graphic design student, so gonna turn her loose on it. Will likely remain pretty laid back however, sticking to a black/white theme, and maybe a blue Duramax logo in there somewhere to match the engines. |

Is it gonna make it to Lake Cumberland?!?! I live in KY and would be tempted to find a way to get out to see it run if it is gonna be here.

Not likely to make Cumberland run, too much crap to do in 30 days. Thinking maybe the little Ohio River Run in Cinci, if things progress nicely.
If we miss that, thinking we might do a Pittsburgh to New Orleans run this fall. Some old record time from the mid 1900's I'd like to lay claim to. Boat is getting shipped out of FL, so why not deliver by water.. ![]() |

They could be dropped in tomorrow, but one is currently setting in Indiana and the other is ready to go over there. So everyone PM Mark for me today..
