Double check maf idle readings and make sure you don't have any leaks. A squirt bottle with soapy water might help you find some of your low end power leaking out of a pipe connection.

Serious question, why not just stab a set of rods in a good low-ish mileage engine? 10k is nuts if you're just a dude that wants to put the squeeze on a engine a little harder than stock rods would...
