Oval Piston Roll Call!!

If you are running a set of ovals, let us know how you are doing. I have not heard from most of you after the sale. That could be could good or bad and I want to know.

sterlinLBZ 08-31-2013 12:26 PM

Mines running good, I get it dyno tuned the 19th and ill let ya know what kind of numbers ill be at! Thanks for your help!

DieselmafiaLLY 08-31-2013 12:27 PM

you guys should give some info on your build, how many miles on em and the hp levels your running. give us an idea of what they are stading up to and how long!

dbev24 08-31-2013 12:29 PM

Mine should be running next week

sterlinLBZ 08-31-2013 12:50 PM

I've got maybe 1,000 miles since I got mine running. I'm hoping for 700+ horse. Everything is in my sig except I went with fingers pistons not the mahle

quinton 08-31-2013 01:34 PM

Waiting on machine shop to finish minr

dmax711 08-31-2013 02:15 PM

My truck is almost done...again but for the few thousand miles it does have the pistons are good.

rgullett83 08-31-2013 06:31 PM

I need some more $ to get mine finished. Actually think I may send them back for some valve reliefs before I get started with the rest of the machine work

Sent from my GT-I9300

prodiesel804 08-31-2013 07:30 PM

motor is done, just waiting on the trany now.

Vsouth 08-31-2013 09:05 PM

I have a little over 20k miles on my build so far. I have around 80 1/4 mile passes at 840ish hp or so. 8k of that was towing 10k at 650hp. Truck is running great so far. Will be hitting a couple dyno events in the next couple weeks and will see if she wants to go over a 1000hp.

Heather has been either winning or destroying driveline parts this year in her 2.5 truck Hank. John's pistons are working well.

Come on guys there has to be more feedback then this !

bcdeutsch731 09-02-2013 05:23 AM

I run Fingers cast pistons. I have 82 1/4mile runs on the motor. 38 of them are in the 9's and 14 of the 9sec passes were 9.4 witch is the fastest I have been. I have been through 3 Allison transmissions, 2 input shafts and 1 output shaft on the Ford transmission. The 3 times my shafts broke my logs show the motor reving to 5800 rpm. At Schieds the converter was not locking so all 7 runs I made the rpm never dropped below 4100 with highest being 4650.
I have about 5000 miles on the street. The tune I drive on the street with dynoed around 700rwhp.
My race tune dynoed over 1100rwhp and at the track I see 84psi of boost and 125psi of drive pressure. I still have the stock Kodiak manifolds and up pipes, so I think I could get rid of some of that drive pressure with some better flowing manifolds and up pipes. I think I'm going to pull the motor apart this winter and look everything over.

dmax711 09-02-2013 05:32 AM

Damn is that impressive.!

I hope to have a classic to stick my extra LBZ in too:thumb:
Then I can get the Mileage I am looking for!

redws6rocket 09-02-2013 04:01 PM

I have a set in mine, got it running last weekend. Got a fuel leak to fix then its time to hook it to the sled.

Bigdirtylbz07 09-13-2013 04:22 AM

Waiting on the machine shop as well. Running your .020 overs at 15.5:1 a Hamilton 192-200 cam, Hamilton pushrods and springs, heads are getting a valve job, lb7 cryo treated crank, keyed cam and crank, 100% overs. Plus all the mods in my sig. Hoping to hit a good high hp single charger number. These pistons sure do look pretty tho!

Keep em coming guys.

MarkBroviak 09-16-2013 09:57 AM

My truck has roughly 7K miles on it now since the build last November and I run the RaceCast Ovals at 15.25:1 and I am currently at 1151hp and 2,000+ftlbs making 82psi boost and 100psi drive. I drive it on the street in the 750-950hp range mostly so the trany is somewhat happy. Trany has been my biggest issues because of the vast swing in power from daily driving to racing, it hates me for it!

I know Jon can tell you as I can can't keep track but I know we have bought the most of these pistons with great results! Have them in a bunch of 1,000+hp trucks without any failures to date. I think if anyone is going to fail a set of the cast pistons it should be me or Brett's truck as we are beating on them pretty damn hard! :thumb:

Kappa9012 09-16-2013 10:14 AM

what kind of blow by are you guys seeing, any cold start issues or white smoke, obviously the guys with lower compression ratios are going to have issues.

Cknight199 09-16-2013 10:31 AM

I just want one to break at 1300+ hp so I would feel safe at 1200 hp ;) very impressive what marks truck is doing though.

sterlinLBZ 09-16-2013 10:51 AM

Mine with a little lower compression will white smoke just a little on a cold start, and very little blow by if any, I havnt seen any but havnt looked real real hard either

MarkBroviak 09-16-2013 05:52 PM

I don't have any glow plugs or grid heater and she is a little cranky on cold start ups below 60 degrees. Thinking about throwing the glow plugs back in to cure this issue but what do you expect at 15.25:1 comp and 200%inj, lol! I don't have any more blow by than a stocker does. You should see the low compression ones on cold start up...:spit:

MarkBroviak 09-16-2013 05:53 PM

How many sets of these pistons are out there now Jon?

Fingers 09-16-2013 06:47 PM

About 40 total of oval design have been made. 30 cast 10 forged. I really don't know how many are actually in running engines.

Kappa9012 09-16-2013 08:33 PM

15.25:1, and those aren't the low compression!!??!??! holy sheet man how low have you gone so far? Isn't stock compression around 18:1?

coldLBZ 09-17-2013 04:10 PM

Jon, how are you liking your 17.5:1 set? How is your MPG? Thanks.

16.8 for lbz and newer
17.5 for lb7/lly
who has the 18:1 set?

after siting for ~12 hours fired up in 10* temps in watertown WI, march of this year, with initial cyclce of the GP 17:1

Kappa9012 09-17-2013 10:40 PM

must have gotten confused with our engines at work. I was thinking the dmax was 18:1. Now that I think about it, I'd have to look at and see what something like a C7 would run for compression.

Malibu is that white smoke with johns pistons? are you running larger injectors? I'm kind of curious what kind of white smoke im going to see this winter with the 60 overs.

yep johns, that was ~15-20 seconds after start up, after about 1-2 minutes at high idle it cleared up substantially. iirc i had roughly 10-15k on the engine

stock everything except the pistons

MPG is about the same as it was before the pistons. I could use some better injectors. ~15 city 17-18 highway.

If I redo these, I'll drop mine to 16:1 the higher CR rattles too much for my taste.

Haze seems to be more a function of injectors than CR to a point.
