Pulling Motor... Lift points?
So I've got an 11 CCLB DRW that I bought with a blown head gasket (hopefully).

I started pulling the motor today. Removed the entire cooling stack and disconnected lots of electrical components. I've still got a few grounds, fuel lines, and starter wire are the known tasks.

My questions are. On an LML, where can you pick the motor from? I don't see anything at the back of the engine to hoist from. In the front, on one side, I think I can use a bolt through the blank accessory (extra alternator or CP pump), and maybe use one of the alternator bolts on the other side of the front, but what about the back of the engine?

I've also never pulled an engine from a car/truck before, so I guess I need to pull the torque converter bolts? Anybody know of any good DIY instructions for doing this?

Any tips, tricks etc would be greatly appreciated.

There should be 2 m 12 bolt holes in the back of either head.I just screw a bolt thru a chain end and either bot thru the alt bracket or right where the second alt goes right above the power steering.

Same as he said. Yes you have to remove the starter and take the converter bolts out.

Obviously you will have to remove the bell housing bolts and there should be six converter bolts I believe. If you have radiator and front end off the truck you can get a few long extensions to get at them easy through the starter hole

Also take pictures and label everything if this is your first time. Def will help with reassembly

I take the fan and shroud off remove the rad top support and the rad and the motor clears with turbo and all.If it was me I wouldn't pull the front fenders and all its not needed and if you don't get them back on right the body lines are off and if you do it my way no need to discharge the a/c, just lay it off to the side without touching the battery.

I always try to use four lift points on the hour corners of the heads. I have used two diagonally but it seems sketchy. X2 on the exit route remove everything in front and the top rail on the core support and leave main core support bottom in. I'll send a pic. I also use a load leveler it makes everything easier. Summit carries them.

Any idea what the thread pitch is on those M12's? I'd guess 1.5 or 2.0 maybe? Also any idea how deep the thread hole in the head is?

1.5 IIRC

Head depth is a little more than 1/2"

The head is identical front and back locate the holes your going to use on the back and find the same holes on the front and you will know what thread and how deep.Should be the same pitch as the bolts that hold the acc bracket on.

Since I've never unbolted an engine from trans... when I am unbolting the converter via the starter hole, will I have to turn the engine over to access all of the bolts (I assume so) and if so what is the best method? If I had to guess I'd say remove all the glow plugs and turn the motor over by the main crank bolt, an extension and breaker bar?

Has anyone else noticed the irregular fan blade pattern? Anyone know why they did it like that? Not sure why the pics are loading 90˚ off

U can use the crank bolt that holds on the dampner to turn or use a flat screwdriver through the converter access hole on the bell housing. But I ususlly use the crank bolt. Turn the engine clockwise.
