S300 Kit. Wow.

1 Attachment(s)
Just got one of HSP's S300 installation kits in to install on my 2002 LB7 to help with some future turbo testing. Absolutely amazed by the craftsmanship and fabrication skills from Joe and Dave. While the out of the box S366 works well for most applications, I'm hoping to show that for a little extra money making changes to the turbine wheel and compressor wheel sizes can make substantial improvements in towing and street performance depending on fueling and end goals...

superswamper003 10-13-2014 03:02 PM

That looks really nice! Do you have a stock trans still?

JoshH 10-13-2014 03:41 PM

Looking forward to hearing the results of your testing. Which turbo are you going to try first?

JDub 10-13-2014 03:47 PM

Truck has a built trans, lift pump, stock fuel.

And will be starting with a cast 66 with a 70mm turbine wheel. Then we'll switch to a 64.5 FMW on the same 70 turbine. Then jump up to the box 66 and the 67.7 with the 73 turbine. Will most likely have to toss 30% injectors in at some point

minerigger 10-13-2014 03:51 PM

Be interesting the 66 with a 74 turbine and with an 80 turbine

JDub 10-13-2014 03:53 PM

That's what the box 66 is. And personally I think for up to 600 horsepower ( or stock rods )that much turbine isnt needed.

JDub 11-14-2014 09:30 AM

Change in plans on the turbo I'll be running. Borg Warner announced an all new line-up for the S300 crowd. More performance oriented stuff, 360-degree thrust washer and a new compressor cover design with intergrated speed sensor and boost port. They all have the Forged Mill Wheels in them too. Brand new 66mm and 69mm options to go with the 74mm turbine wheel. Said the 69mm flows almost 100lbs-min!

JoshH 11-14-2014 09:35 AM

I've been meaning to start a thread about that new turbo line. Any word on when they're going to be released?

JDub 11-14-2014 09:38 AM

I was told they should be available in January, but I'd bet it's closer to March-April. The 64.5mm already available and the new 66mm should be a great option for the Dmax crowd, the 66mm has a lower surge line than the current cast 66 and moves more air. Can't wait to try them out...

Any idea on price compared to the old ones? Hopefully this will free up some used s366s for triple duties.

JDub 11-14-2014 09:53 AM

Borg hasn't released pricing yet.

I'm with this guy :D

DIESELMAFIAPER.LB7 11-14-2014 11:00 AM

My 76 will be coming off for a 69/74 fmw when it's available then I'll be doing a 83 over it

minerigger 11-14-2014 12:32 PM

I know I'm gonna have to either get rid of my billet 366 with the 80x74 turbine and go to a 363 or 364 with the 76x68 turbine or images have to feed it more fuel. At 5300 ft it's a pig and no fun to drive

That sounds like a mean street setup.

Is the 69/74 a T3 gated and what does FMW stand for?

I have the old 66/71/16ss gated T3 HTT its a powerful little turbo how does it compare to the 69/74FMW?

JDub 11-14-2014 01:08 PM

69/74 will be a t4 nongated version. FMW stands for Forged Mill Wheel

Well, after two months of this kit sitting in the garage I may finally have some time to swap everything out in the next couple of weeks. Can't wait to try the S300 with the smaller 70mm turbine wheel out.

S Phinney 01-01-2015 12:36 PM

The info that I have on the new turbos is there will be various formats and the prices are quite a bit higher than the current units. More than 2000 each.

MAXX IT OUT 02-17-2015 06:52 AM

Anymore info on this experiment or on the new BW turbos?

JDub 02-19-2015 09:42 PM

To be honest, I haven't even gotten around to installing it. Still all boxed up in the garage. I do have the 64.5mm FMW/70mm/.91 t4 turbo built and ready to go with it. Just gotta find the time.

DIESELMAFIAPER.LB7 02-19-2015 10:13 PM

I need the 69 fmw :D

mike diesel 02-20-2015 05:03 AM

What kind of power can that 69fmw support?

JDub 02-20-2015 09:02 AM

No one knows yet, Borg hasn't made it available yet. But the compressor map looks pretty damn impressive.

JDub 03-17-2015 09:10 PM

Installation of the 64.5 FMW/70/.91 t4 and this HSP kit starts this week. Finally decided it was time. Now that winter is over...

Damn should have just brought it up and dropped it off I'd had you running in a day lol

mike diesel 03-17-2015 09:36 PM

It's utah...we had no winter. You're excuse is invalid.

Hurry up!! I think your 364.5 FMW is the same I had in my compounds. I loved it, can't wait to see how it does as a single :thumb:

Did you have the setup josh Harris worked on? Had a s366 then swapped to the smaller 64.5? If so, yes, that was a 64.5/70

I can't wait for results, I have been thinking of swapping for a 67/87/.90 but this might be more realistic for my truck.

Yup! That's the one! I was very pleased with the results. Truck was a beast on the street, never changed the tune but it was building some serious torque! You could roll into the throttle at 1500rpms with the converter locked and be at 40psi by 2000rpms

JDub 03-19-2015 09:56 PM

Old turbo and pedestal out. Hoping tomorrow night and Saturday allows to start the reassembly.

JDub 04-02-2015 11:23 AM

Y-Bridge fit like a glove. HTT T4 pedestal with HSP spacer block and the 64.5mm FMW turbo are in place. Just need to button up a few last things...

Couple loose ends to finish up, but it's pretty much complete. Fit like a glove.
