Yeah that is a big NO NO there. Our High School shop teacher told us that after he had a close call and blacked out from it.

Wow!

Thank you for the head's up.

We use brake cleaner a lot, and argon as inert gas.

Everybody who welds should read this thread.

Thankyou for the heads up!

Im a pipefitter by trade and its bad enough breathing the stick welding fumes that cause cancer, or when welding on Galvanized the fumes can poison you.

Welding is not for people who think its a fun toy.

yeah, about 15yrs ago my brother was working at a garage with a pit for doing alignments. The idiot in the next bay was spraying down an intake while car running with no hose. the moron grabbed BrakeCleen instead of 2+2. When you run it through a motor, the exhuast becomes equivalent to mustard gas. well the pit filled with fumes, he made it out gagging, and now has perminant lung damage.

Scary stuff

THANKS FOR ADVISING US! I had no idea, and ive smell chlorine smell before, i have gotten that stuff hot, actual makes me wonder cause i have developed a cough but is minimal now but thankfully no severe symptoms I normally use the non-chlorinated kind, the fast dry stuff thats real flammable, not the stinky slow drying chlorinated (red can if its Brakleen)(green is non-chlorinated), The chlorinated wont burn but i bet its the one responsible for phosgene gas, really scary crap!

Sounds like he got Argon poisoning! It replaces the 02 in your lungs, and you cant get enough 02 intake. Whats he doing trying to weld a Wet/rusted area with a tig, especially on a tank? I use brake-clean or acetone every day, to prep the surface on stainless. Going on several years now. Hmm, maybee thats whats wrong

Kinda got myself once doing something similar. I was cleaning out the jets and passages in the carb of my old sandrail with some brake cleaner, the non-flammable stuff. I had a hell of a time trying to get it started afterward because I had basically flooded the engine and carb with non-flammable fluid... Well, once it finally lit the waste gate from the turbo puffed right in my face. I'd never had something burn my eyes and lungs so bad! Just about put me on the ground.

yeah I learned that years ago...its dangerous. Ive always bought non-chloronated brake parts cleaner for that reason.

Its in a green can instead of red can (the CRC brand)
