Default Hayden Fan Clutch

Hey Everyone,
I've been lurking for several weeks trying to search and learn as much as I can before I ask stupid questions that have been answered a hundred times already. I know I need to update my signature so you know what I'm working with but I'll run down the particulars: '06 LBZ with tons of upgrades to engine, tranny, and body. I bought it from another member on here, D-max mafia. It has a Danville 4094 turbo, PPE up pipes, down pipes, manifolds, DSP5 tuning by Duramax tuner, stage 5 trans, etc. The list goes on a lot further but again, I bought it and all the blood, sweat, and tears Ben put into it.
My question is for all the people crazy enough to tow heavy loads in a state as hot as AZ with huge, long grades up the mountains. The temp gauge went past 210 while towing which freaked me out because I know almost nothing about diesels. From what I read, probably not a big deal due to inaccuracy of factory gauge but that doesn't mean there's not room for improvement. If I install a Hayden 2886, will the fan ever turn off again? It sounds like it will engage at lower temps which is great while towing but maybe not so good for every day use? Whatcha all think?
Thanks in advance,
JT

I have a Hayden clutch on my LB7, and it does run more than the stock fan, but it is off most of the time running empty. I've had it come on climbing grades when it is over 100*F outside without towing, but it cycles. With a trailer, it kicks on pretty easy on the hills and stays on until I am on level ground for a while.

I don't find it that offensive, and it does keep temps in check better on my truck.

Mines hardly on when i don't have the trailer hooked up..
Though sitting idling with AC on then take off you hear it all little then it will go off..

AC will be colder in hot climates with the fan clutch at lower speeds
255+ is considered over heating and ecm pulls fuel

Thanks guys. I'm ordering it. I guess the Lbz takes the 2850 though, glad I checked the website first.

Do what Chevrolet did not do, allow much airflow to the bottom 2" of the radiator, truck runs about 185 degrees on the freeway on the week we had 115 degree days as opposed to 210+.

Seeing how I keep my vehicles for a long time I'm going to skip the Hayden brand fan clutches and buy a Murray from Oreillys, what surprised me most was it is "Made in the USA" then I can warranty it out when necessary and not have to wait for one to be sent to me. Not to mention not sure of the effects of pushing the fan 3/4" of an inch closer to the radiator which the 2886 does...

My gauge is accurate checked against my V2.

I don't mean to hijack but this is the warmest my coolant has ever gotten. The fan never came on either. What temp is it supposed to turn on at?

Engine coolant is not the only factor that determines when the fan comes on, my ECT was 185 degrees with OAT of about 110 and it came on and that was a short trip to Home Depot on my way home Sunday afternoon after I got off the freeway. The transmission temperature was a bit high pushing a bit over 200...

Okay so your saying 215 coolant temp and no fan is normal then since I'm not in 110 degree weather?

If it has never been replaced consider replacing it, mine is on it's last summer (I said that last year) and they decrease in efficiency/performance with age. With that said I wont be driving out of town till I do replace it....

I ran for about 4 hours yesterday with engine temps running 210-215 at 65mph, and the fan only kicked in leaving a redlight. Outside air temps were 95-98 degrees and I was towing my 32' travel trailer. And this is with a hayden fan clutch for an lb7. One thing I don't like about my hayden is it doesnt engage at an idle like I've seen ac delco fan clutches engage. Would be nice as it would help the ac out sitting at a stoplight so my auxilary condenser fan wouldnt have to run so much.

My Hayden kicks on at idle every time when the a/c is going.

The Hayden that Adam posted acted the exact same as my factory lb7 clutch other than it comes on 30* sooner.

My Hayden comes on at idle with the A/C as well if it is hot enough outside. Basically any time it is over 90*F outside, it kicks on at long red lights.

2886 clutch would have the fan fully engaged by 200 ect

Mike

I have put ~240,000 miles on the 2886 via my 07.5 and ~130,000 miles via the 99 3500, even ran that fan clutch with the 6.5td for 11,000 miles of the 130k.
I would like to think i have a pretty solid idea of its performance characteristics maybe idk
If there was something bad about it, i would have reported and look for something different, and reported what i swapped to

Opening up the bumper and grill holes helps no debate there.. while moving.. doesnt change when the OEM fan clutch engages

I can literally turn the fan on/off by switching the AC on/off in 80+ temps and no trailer. I rarely see anything above 195 ect even while towing
